I debated whether to post this as the privacy community already has excellent websites with https://www.privacyguides.org/ and https://www.privacytools.io/ (which is actually metric on the site).
However, I really tried to focus on newcomers who might be less technical. So I really hope that this can be a useful resource, whether it is for you starting this journey, or friends/family who could use the help.
Nice work! Are the icons of mainstream options (gmail etc) intended to eventually be links to something? If not it might make sense to remove the hover/pointy cursor
For MetaGer, there isn’t a free tier as far as I understand or can see. You need to pay for credits but key creation is gratis.
Where OuterTune?
I’d add CopyParty to https://privacy.purchasewithpurpose.io/category/file-storage/
It’s a shame that it doesn’t provide the visitor with any additional information about each of the recommended options. It would be cool if you could provide some information about how certain option stacks up against others!
Minor nitpick: some of the categories it’s tagged with seem to be a bit misleading. LibreOffice is tagged with “Purchase and own the software permanently” or KeePassXC is tagged with “Free Tier” implying to me that there’s a paid one.
I’m not sure about some of the picks (NordPass or Dashlane for example) but default selection on the home page seems pretty good to me!
Sidenote: I wouldn’t trust privacytools.io anymore (see privacyguides.org FAQ).
Thanks! Will take all this feedback on board. Can see how some of the wording is confusing. I am looking at slowly introducing more information on each tool (screenshots included). For now, I try to link people as to where they can get this e.g. privacyguides
I also didn’t know about the privacytools situation. Will absolutely look more into that.
Nice job on layout and content. Thanks very much.
OpenWRT released a router. Degoogled Fairphone 6 (with MicroG) with e/OS is available in US and uses Murena provider. DNS options with VPNs and domain filters would be cool. Jellyfin instead of Spotify could go under music. Scihub, Gutenberg, and Scidb under books.
This site looks good. Thank you for your contribution! Love it!
Well done!
Anti-Brave?
No, but involved different communities when creating it and some people made the move only to be told about Brave’s CEO history, then regretted it. Added the note so people can be informed one way or the other. Also, the thread linked gives an excellent opportunity for someone to get both sides of some of their controversies that have been shared with Brendan directly addressing each one in the comments.
This is excellent! Good work!
