I was pretty excited about Prusa’s OpenPrintTag specs and the implication with NFC tags, but there weren’t any apps available that could generate them (or read the bin files generated on the site), so I built (well… mostly vibe coded) an app!
I’m also trying to get it released on the Play Store, but apparently need testers, so let me know if you’re interested!
Note: I’ve only tested this on NFC215 tags, not the actual OpenPrintTags from Prusa since I don’t have any, so I would appreciate any feedback on whether this works for those of you with them.
How does this community feel about ai slop and “vibe coding”? I for one would like to see it disappear completely and become forbidden in as many places as possible

Linus has already said he was impressed with AI finding a bug in Linux that no one else had found. So Linux already has AI assistance. Yes it has been human reviewed. You don’t know what the OP did with his AI assistance.

The issue is that if you accept it, there will be no better option. Once you get out of the evangelists (who rarely actually contribute much code…) you are looking at professionals who are choosing to spend their free time contributing to the community. And having a few users (or, in this case, ad watching customers in the android app…) goes a long way. You don’t get that if everyone has decided the vibe coded slop is “good enough”.
Is human written code necessarily better? No. But, at the very least, if someone cares enough to obfuscate their project so it is not obvious it was shat out by Cursor? Maybe they care enough to provide support.
Interesting perspective. I guess I’m the opposite since I believe if you care about and believe in your code, you’re willing to be honest about the tools you used to generate it.
I don’t really have an issue with vibe coding as such, but more the people that tend to use it. Because the people that use it often have no programming skills, they have no clue what the code actually does or a way to check it, so they end up with releasing black-boxes that they don’t really know how work or what the code actually does or contains. If you just validate the generated code to make sure it’s properly made and doesn’t contain things it shouldn’t, I have no issue with it.
You are solely responsible for vetting the software that you choose to run.
I do not review or care about the tools a person uses to create their projects. I appreciate the disclaimer when the person discloses their aptitude and confidence in their code.
Free software and Unix culture is a culture of hackers. Stallman’s very degree is in AI. Emacs is mostly a thing because lisp was adapted early on for AI development many decades ago.
Junk code is nothing new. X11 is notoriously bad, yet you likely have parts of it running on your hardware. Proprietary code is far far worse than anything a hacker posts as open source, yet you are running proprietary blobs on whatever device you are looking at now. Even if you are like myself with a libreboot machine, Leah readily admits that you need to run the core duo microcode if you want it to run right, and are not using that hardware for your primary device. The culture of antiAI is dogmatic nonsense. It is a tool, not a religion. It can be used harmfully or helpfully. I can’t fix stupid in anyone except myself. I do not fault anyone for what they run, the projects they share, or the background they come from. I encourage everyone to be positive and help their fellow hackers. I value participation and enthusiasm. Dogma and negativity are toxic.

There are serious concerns with running Ai code, like it or not.
Putting tools in the hands of inexperienced people has been a problem for software development ever since the Apple II shipped with Basic.
There is/will be a surplus of garbage/buggy apps because of AI exactly like what happened when consumers got their first computers back in the late 70’s. Magazines were filled with diatribes about amateur GOTO spaghetti code. We got over it.
