Worth noting that Kodi is available as a flatpak. You could just try it on nearly any Linux distro.

I was actually testing a Vero V earlier this evening!

The Jellyfin integrations with Kodi are (in my opinion) bad.

There’s the veraion that syncs with Kodi’s library, but the sync is super brittle.

There’s the version that is more “Jellyfin app” (JellyCon), but it might be the slowest UI I’ve ever seen.

For me, Jellyfin just does not work well with Kodi.

I have to run Ubuntu for our security software (Vanta), and I did thr upgrade early mostly hoping they’d finally ironed out the issues with the ipu7 camera on the Dell XPS 13 (9350).

It’s otherwise fine (although I get a touch irrational about snaps…)

Reinstalled my work laptop earlier today.

1. IPU7 camera still doesn’t work out of the box. Hoping there’s an OEM driver released at some point.
2. Switching away from snap-based Firefox means a firefox that won’t start up. I’m now stuck with Firefox in a Snap, which can’t manage gnome extensions. Annoying paper cut requiring installing (ironically) a flatpak to manage extensions.
3. They removed the “Software and Updates” package from the default install, making for a worse experience for new users trying to fix driver issues
4. The dash-to-dock plugin that Cannonical default installs overrides some keyboard shortcuts (particularly super+q - my preferred shortcut for closing programs)
5. ptyxis is fine as a terminal, but all configs only go through dconf, so any changes you want require a pile of searching
6. sudo -E doesn’t actually bring in environment vars, breaking at least some scripts.

Some of these come from Cannonical switching away from GNU userland tools. Some of these may be more Gnome choices. And some just suck.

If I wasn’t stuck with Ubuntu because of software requirements, I would use nearly anything else.

People mentioned Ad Busters and others, but No Logo was pretty formative for me. It’s not exactly what you asked about (it’s a book, not a movement), but I think it continues to point that people have been acting against advertising for decades.

btrfs can pool disks just fine. Create a RAID nice and quick.

There’s also btrfs send and receive. Which may be what you need for shipping the data? You can use SSH for a secure write…

If this is a one-time copy, I’d strongly consider just syncing the data vs. shipping drives (which, as people have pointed out, may have serious reliabilty concerns).

Otherwise, if you must ship, I’d say the best move is two copies of each piece of data, so any single drive failing in shipping isn’t a big deal. But not a RAID. Just two literal copies on two separate drives. Simplest way to ensure some redundancy.

You can even have like…40 taskbars floating in the middle of the screen!
