  • i’ve recently introduced a new rule for myself - i’m only ever to have one plate, one bowl, one mug, one set of cutlery, up to 2 kitchen knives & 2 pots/pans dirt at a time. if i want to cook more and my usual set is dirty? well, gotta clean them first (though this has also helped me get in the habit of cleaning right after i’m done, so i don’t spend time hungrily waiting for the crusty pans to soak)

honestly, this has been working great for me. the huge pile of dirty plates and cutlery at the end of the week? no longer a problem, no longer a daunting task, because it no longer exists! there’s one working set, and that’s it

this also allows me to enjoy my favourite mug all the time instead of once a week :3

  • important note:

placebo is caused by a strong belief, even if logically you know it’s not real it can still work

    but

you first need the strong belief. how do you get such a strong belief? with a ritual of course. not necessarily one with bubbling cauldrons during the full moon (though if you believe in that kind of magic that’d work as well) but one that has you going to a place you associate with health, and talking to a person in a special outfit that you believe will fix you, then going to a secondary health place, and getting the health potion pills from someone in a special outfit. also called - going to a doctor and picking up meds from a pharmacy.

this entire process sets up the right environment for strongly believing you’re going to feel better now, and then the sugar pills supercharged with placebo will work like magic.

they will also work if at some point either the doctor or the pharmacist whispers to you “btw that’s just placebo”. that’s because the belief you’ve already established is much stronger than your logic

but if you just go out and buy tictacs at a gas station then chant to yourself “this will cure my headache this will cure my headache” it won’t work, because you didn’t have an opportunity to establish any emotional belief about them ie. you didn’t manage to convince the emotional part of your brain that it’ll work

this is also why homeopathy, essential oils, charging crystals, and other purely belief bases approaches work despite the thing itself not doing anything. the rituals surrounding those things simply manage to build a strong enough belief that causes the placebo effect

the same is true for the opposite - nocebo - if you strongly believe something is going to make you feel bad - it’s going to

it blew my tiny mind when i found out that there are multiple dwarf planets in long solar orbits in our system

they might be small and enjoy solitude but why are we forgetting about them???

and now apparently there’s also a dwarf planet in the inner solar system that nobody talks about??? rude

  • so many launchers to pick from! i personally like Modrinth the most

oh yeah and most of those launchers allow for easy modding. want a modpack? click install, wait for it to download, and then just click play in the automatically created instance. want only a few mods but don’t want to check endless dependency lists? what is it 2015? also just click install, the launcher will automatically download dependencies (and the right versions of them too!). worry that you’ll install a fabric version when you wanted forge? or a mod for 1.20 when you need 1.20.1? relax as when you click “add mods” the launcher automatically applies filters that only show you mods that are tagged for your specific version (filters that you can still disabled though, it doesn’t lock you out of installing a mod that’s not explicitly tagged as fit for your version, but you know it’ll work on it)

though don’t get too comfy slapping that install button, there’re still two things that can’t be automated - incompatibilities between mods, and straight up broken files. launchers nowadays significantly reduce the number of headaches you get when modding, but they don’t entirely remove them lol

fun fact! when you put a bunch of people from different nationalities in a room together, and lock them in for prolonged periods of time - their accents will eventually blend into one. linguists have noticed exactly that happening to scientists at polar research stations, where you get stationed usually for 6 months at a time. linguistic mimicry is a rather strong thing
