The world is pretty fucked up right about now. You all deserve a break. Go grab your favorite snacks, sit back and enjoy some games being done quick.

If you somehow never heard of it. It is a week long speedrun marathon with different runners attending showcasing their skills of beating a game as quickly as possible. Donations go partially to different charities, though if you care about that you can just donate directly to the organizations. It is a great event though.

Some of my favorites on the schedule:

  • Once Upon A KATAMARI

Never saw a Katamari Game done quick, and only now got curious how they tame the wonky physics. Love Katamari games too.

  • Mario Kart World

Always liked mario kart speedruns with its ultra short cuts. I will never own a switch 2 though and somehow managed to not see a single track of world so I will just take the opportunity to watch it “all” here and see how broken it is after the relatively short time after its release.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. Majora’s Mask (Blindfolded)

I am not sure what the “vs. MM” is all about. Never played MM actually so I hope I can watch this without being spoiled. Really like Bubzias Blindfolded SM64 runs. Reminds me of when I tried to play “The Impossible Game” blindfolded and though its a rythm game I have failed so bad. It is so much harder than it looks.

I feel like a lot of times the most interesting speedruns are of lesser known titles which are completely broken and taken apart by the runners. I really do not know where to start though. I will probably just tune in from time to time.

Do you have any runs you looking forward to see?

Majora’s Mask has been so thoroughly broken by speedrunners that watching a run of it is nearly a completely different game than the one you would play. That said, you should absolutely play it, it’s consistently rated as one of the best, if not THE best Zelda game of all time.

I don’t think I’ve been more surprised to see a game on a GDQ schedule than Richard Burns Rally. The 20 year old brutally difficult rally sim with a dedicated player base to this day. I can’t wait to see someone actually be good at it live!

Thanks for noticing. I wasn’t planning to go over the whole schedule but I started playing it some weeks ago and now want to see that speed run.

The Mario 64 70 Star, 70 Person Relay doesn’t sound like a competitive category, but does sound like fun.

I can’t say there’s anything that really jumps out at me aside from maybe the presumably mirrored Super Mario World…

…but Argick running a non-Sonic game? Sure I’m up for that!

Dark Souls will probably be great, and I’m also very curious about Pokémon HGSS as that has a special place in my heart.
