be careful Mr Ballman, remember that some time in the 2000’s there was a ff movie, that felt nothing like final fantasy, some type space adventure. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice… that’s a strike
I enjoyed the film since it tried to blend science fiction and fantasy elements. The team at Square Pictures should have kept a tighter control on the story to keep it from getting overly convoluted though. It shouldn’t have been called Final Fantasy at all, that only served to confuse and disappoint fans.
Yeah it was terrible. Pretty but not a good movie at all. I was excited for that one too and when I saw the reviews decided to rent it instead. I’ll do the same here.
Wait, I only just now looked it up to realize spirits within didn’t do well… People don’t like it? I thought it was really good. It felt very much in-line with a final fantasy type story, just without the grinding combat for hours part. Hehe.
A lot of people mindlessly expected more fantasy and don’t really understand that the underlying theme for like every final fantasy game is environmentalism, anti corruption, legacy, and fellowship, not just chocobos and crystals
I suppose it’s the problem with alot of sci-fi. It’s very hard to make well-done science fiction that also appeals to a wide audience. So they either have to fight for it every chance and likely put up with terrible funding, or compromise the integrity to appeal to more viewers.

Hey they got movie theatre money out of me for that. It is everyone else who didn’t see it that is clearly at fault for that blunder.
If you aren’t aware they’ve released two other movies since then. The FFVII sequel film “Advent Children” and “Kingsglaive” set in the FFXV universe.
