I can test from France in 3 hours if you want.

FTR: fiber connection, 160 Mbps download with a VPN in Sweden (Mullvad fuck yeah), same upload speed.

One of the Mullvad founders funds a far right political party.

Thought you should know. It might not bother you, but it bothered me enough to move to an alternate provider.

You’re of course correct on that, but Mullvad the company gave (somewhat) clear news release that their company is against far right (or left or any ‘far’ direction) politics. I’m not a customer and I couldn’t care less about Mullvad, but I think it’s worthwhile to keep in mind that company isn’t the same than one of it’s founders.

Of course if that is a breaking point to you, feel free to vote with your wallet and I can very much understand the decision, but there’s very few fully reputable companies around so I can also understand if that’s not a hill to die on.

Despite what comes from the mouth of the company, it is made from and run by the people behind it. Funding Mullvad funds him, and in turn that funds something intolerable to me. As long as that link is there, I won’t be.

Separating the people from the company is viable when it’s an inconsequential staffer in question. Not so for a co-founder and co-owner.

There aren’t many things left in life where it’s easy to have scruples, but this absolutely a hill that can be died upon without much inconvenience.

I haven’t tried for a long time but here are my scientific results:

        • /me Mullvad VPN in Sweden, fiber, 160 Mbps
        • 5 seconds to load a movie (from clicking on the Play button to the movie starting), it’s good
        • 1 or 2 seconds to seek in the middle of the movie, I like that

There is a small glitch when I tried to turn on the subtitles of the “Community” TV show, but otherwise it seems to be fine. Should we look for specific issues?

More tests in 3 hours if you want, you have some good stuff.

Still good. It is obviously slower for Avatar which is in 4K + HEVC: 10 seconds to start, 5 seconds to seek, but it’s still acceptable, you don’t do those actions all the time. And it’s not skipping, neither the sound nor the video.

BTW what is your setup? Is there some kind of transcoding?

No it’s a old laptop running everything, including other severe. The Avatar 2 was like a 17gb movie that’s why I was telling people to avoid it
