    First thing I do when a journalist writes about a study is trying to find the paper and read the abstract. That usually end up giving me some more articles and different takes on the study too when going through the search results.

      Sometimes the headline and the article sensationalize the actual research. Sometimes the study is flawed in some way, but the journo doesn’t actually catch it. And then of course because the news site wants readers to not bounce, they won’t even link the study. So frustrating and obnoxious.

        The article is often repeating the university press release. And the university press departments often try to maximise clout ie. funding so write stuff that is exaggerated sensationalised or straight up innacurate.
