So, I look at this how I first saw the fediverse. There was a promise of collaboration, a united against monopolistic tech companies that originally drew me in, but how it worked was not clearly explained and I didn’t really understand until much after joining Lemmy, most users don’t care for the complexity and while you are correct that a cetralized Lemmy would go against the purpose of the fediverse, my idea would be of a communal lobby not one ran from a single instance but as a collaboration between the biggest instances. It only would display a catalog of instances and use API endpoints to create a new users account. The feddisearch already exists and could just be either linked to this page or also pulled in using an API if possible. Management would be handled by the owners of all member instances as well as financing.

I guess the question finally falls in do we want to go up against the big tech companies and improve the internet, or just want to exist inone of the Internet’s corners and be left alone?

A global landing page that let’s people join from, asks them some basic questions and selects a server based on those answers wall while explaining in laymen’s tense why. Then when the user finishes signing up presents them with a printable page of their login (user ID, server, etc.) for them to keep in their records and a button to take them straight in.

Hell, add fediserach somewhere in there as well.

Look into why the US only teaches in medical school about the use of petrochemical farma practices

1. Learn skills to survive without electricity or internet. Gardening, navigating, hunting, cooking, etc.

2. Learn to fix both a car and a house as much was possible.

3. Become a DIYer

In that order. The goal is to become completely self sufficient.

Don’t go into slack or discord unless you are able to access every possible chat room. People are weird, neighbors are wierded, neighbors online are absolutely toxic. Theonly alternative is that you have access of all chat logs in the app. Setting up mattermost on a vps would work, but I think there are better options for what app to use. Funny enough Next loud can do everything you want it to do, including slack-lile chat rooms, VoIP, email, contact management, cloud storage, web portal, and you still have access to the logs (in case something wrong happens).

Went to best buy with my mom to buy her a new tv and printer when we went to pay at the cashier, the person in front offered to pay for us. I asked him why and he said he does this randomly about once a month and to pay it forward. I’ve paid the pur bases of 3 random people thus far.

People should have the basic understanding how something they use daily works and what it needs to work.

I have recently bought a new printer but I’m going to work on the Ender after the Holiday’s and get it back to working order. I am hopeful I can turn it into a constant printing machine that auto ejects completed parts. Definetly need a new bed because right now its glass.

Our company is forcing us to do everything with AI, hell they developed a “tool” to generate simple apps using AI our customers can use for their enterprise applications and we are forced to generate 2 a week minimum to “experiment” with the constant new features being added by the dev teams behind it (but we’re basically training it).

The director uses AI spy bots to tell him who read and who didn’t read his emails.

Can’t even commit code to our corporate github unless copilot gives it the thumbs up and its constantly nitpicking things like how we wrote our comments and asking to replace pronouns or to write them a different way, which I always reply with “no” because the code is what matters here.

We are told to be positive about AI and to push the use of AI into every facet of our work lives, but I just feel my career as a developer ending because of AI. We’re a bespoke software company and our customers are starting to ask if they should use AI to built their software instead of paying us, which I then have to spend hours explaining them why it would be a disaster due to the shear complexity of what they want to build.

Most if not all executives I talk to are idiots who don’t understand web development, shit some don’t even understand the basics of technology but think they can design an app.

After being a senior dev and writing code for 15 years I’m starting to look at other careers to switch to… Maybe becoming an AI evangelist? I hear companies are desperately looking for them… Lol, what a fucking disaster this shit is becoming.
