No. I mean you can get all philosophical and say that everything has value only because that’s a human concept, but thats not really something I would answer to.

Fiat has value because it’s enforced. Because we have institutions that enforce it and because all of our lives are intertwined with it. We buy food with it and we are paid with it. It’s everywhere. It doesn’t make it immune to manipulation and fraud and crime, but we can take legal action because law is also intertwined with the same system.

I think it’s an exaggeration of its crime utility. Normal money is king for crime.

I think most people don’t understand cryptocurrencies. On one side it’s all hyperbolic about being your own bank and financial freedom and new tech, on the other side it’s hyperbolic about how there is no underlying value, it’s all going to 0, scams, drugs, terrorism, money laundering,…

But the fact is that crypto does have an underlying value. It’s gambling. Gambling is a huge industry.

I have a similar situation at work. But I’m a designer. Previously I have worked for a company that did research in ai, from a product standpoint where I also had a boss who thought ai can do anything and blamed the workers for not succeeding. Now Im beginning to see the same thing here in my new company. The boss, product manager and a few of the developers (actually those with less ai experience) are driving this motion that ai will just replace everything. I tried to tell them about my experience, but they didn’t listen to a designer.

Now this pressure is also coming to the UX team. A few days ago the boss asked me to use ai to reskin a whole app. It was assumed by him that that’s a simple thing. Why is it so hard for them to understand it doesn’t work like that?

Sabine is one of the most influential scientists today. You haven’t heard of her? She does amazing work and spreads knowledge, new science discoveries, new theories. I mean she did sell out a little bit in the last two years with the ads, but the videos are still brilliant.

She does criticize academia now and then, but I haven’t heard any critique from her that wasn’t completely justified. She does it for the field is theoretical physics, the field she knows.

The article is a hit piece and if you read it again you can easily recognize fallacies, like describing what other people say and putting that in the context of describing her, even though she has nothing to do with them.

Sabine is not perfect and for sure she has a grudge with what happened to her in academia. Maybe it was that personal experience that was maybe not referential to all of academia and she overstates the issues. But there is also another aspect to this. Now that she is famous, a lot of people try to tack on to her success, either with extreme flattery or extreme slander.

Even more than so many eu institutions haven’t even despite that.

Everyone hated windows since ever. Not like real hatred, just making fun out of it. That’s why it’s so weird and cultish to see Mac users so much in love with apple. It’s not healthy.

Artists are always starving is because that’s how it’s always been. I don’t think it can be an argument for or against anything.

I’ve worked with ai image generation professionally and I can say that they are not missing new ideas if people using them aren’t. They are great for brainstorming new ideas. They can’t make a design, but are a great tool speeding up the process.

I love art. I go to galleries often. I don’t think ai can do that and will never be able to. Not true art like capturing a moment in time with the original style of the artist and their life experience. I don’t think ai is a threat to that.

He’s right. You have to use the tools at your disposal. It’s not only a matter of survival but also about streamlining your work process. Focusing on the main design decisions and letting the machine do at least some of the leg work when possible. It’s more pleasant like that.

I don’t mind people hating on ai. Everybody can not use it as much as they want.

Artists have been always starving. The future is such that if you can’t compete with ai , chose another profession where you can. That’s not something I want, but the world is changing and people have to change with it. That’s either with another profession or by voting in politicians that can redistribute the wealth back to them. There is no option where the progress stops , where the clock stops ticking.
