  • That business is just constant problem solving one after another and going through as many to-dos as you can day after day, while still maintaining sanity. That is persistence.

That business is always a house of cards that can fall apart anytime and so you must always keep your eyes on it. That is exhausting worry.

That business is so hard, you’ll be tempted to quit everyday. To overcome that urge to quit you’ll need a much bigger purpose or mission that drives you. Purpose brings determination.

That business really is about value creation for the entire ecosystem (customers, employees, vendors) and that a business is not above that ecosystem. Wall St & American capitalism is short sighted because it demands you pass lesser and lesser value to that ecosystem quarter after quarter, and that is like a slow axe to your own foot.

That most modern economic theory taught in business schools and used by execs in the biggest companies worldwide is all flawed because it fully relies on capturing and optimizing all sorts of business data, but the truth is that it is impossible to capture real world in data.

  • Start with being a good human first, then add lots of love, empathy, & patience, then add ability to recognize the world from their kids perspectives and give them wisdom and guidance throughout their lives so they can go on to become good & happy humans themselves. That’s it.

Because you have a destiny and a purpose way beyond your current comprehension and it is so much bigger than whatever misery you are feeling at any point in life. You have to find what that destiny and purpose is, believe me, because otherwise it would only be a massive opportunity squandered. Let me explain - you are the universe itself, so incredibly lucky to be able to come alive, with an opportunity to experience and appreciate the universe itself, there is a much bigger connection you have to the stars and to all that has life. If you are true to yourself and chase what your heart desires and remove all the noise, you will find your purpose, also called self-actualization. Not to mention you are living in the most comfortable, connected, beautiful time any species including humans was ever afforded. On separate note, it is very understandable and valid if you feel like shit given the current affairs, but if you believe me, this had to happen, and this only means better times will be here sooner rather later.

  • I’m fully agreeing that climate change is a terrible and genuinely upsetting thing. But know that the animal in you wants to instinctively react to fear, and doesn’t want you to listen to reason. Only you can control this animal. Know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum (it’s from a song). Our ancestors lived in caves, lived through feudalism, through centuries of egomaniacal kings and ignorant masses, and sword fighting, and disease, and famine, you and I still made it here to exchange messages on the fediverse. I will not bet against human resilience and spirit of cooperation, which incidentally is also something you will realize is fundamentally human when you look deep in the mirror.

  • Depression is a natural state of deep self-reflection amidst conflict, a mirror so to speak that helps you understand who you are, and as an extension, understand what it means to be human. The way out is only when you’ve figured the underlying root cause of that conflict. What is anger, what triggers this anger, what are insecurities, what motivates you into action and what paralyzes you into inaction. Maybe not depression, but deep self reflection is a necessary path to self actualization. It took me many years in depression to realize the conflict is internal and eternal. That there is an animal in all of us that is that is reactionary and instinctive and is easily triggered by rage, anger, & fear and that all reason and logic hides behind this animal. That when we see the whole world turn into animal, our fears revive the animal in us. Like game theory predicts, when you become selfish, I become selfish. That explains all conflict in the world and I mean all conflict. You may gain clarity and find yourself out of conflict and depression, yet it can still be upsetting to see the current state of the world. And I will say that despite all the terrible news these days, I’m still optimistic about humans doing alright in the long run, afterall we’ve survived so far and our ancestors have gone through much much worse.
