Looks like fw12 is Intel and fw16 is AMD.

This is a feature, not a bug.
I feel like there’s a lemmings reference to be made here but I’m tired. Internet, do your thing.
The one you fucking feel like using. God, stop trying to make tribes mandatory.

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube rolls out more unskippable ads that make viewers wait even longer to watch videos - DexertoEnglish
11·1 year agoI’m actually looking to start a YouTube channel, but I don’t know if I should even bother since YouTube seems to be going out of its way to try to kill itself
That’s not the sole purpose of it. The way it does it was what was important. And that method is flawed.
An example: https://youtu.be/XDsLDhKG8Cs
It doesn’t do the one thing it’s meant to do.
Why use Tor? It’s been compromised for years now. Just use I2P. You can torrent with that too.
Get an EV. Charge at home. Watch YouTube ads while you wait.
Just convince Elon they are his competition and watch this work itself out.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Will kernel-level anti-cheat ever work on linux?English
31·1 year agoShort answer: no
Long answer: only the most important things should even have such low-level access to the system. A fucking game is not in that category. Nooooooo

3·1 year agoThis is true. Even projects with good reputations get caught up in shit like the XZ back door in Linux.
If you haven’t read up on that fiasco, you really should look into it. It got way too far before being caught all because people suck and ruin things for others.

71·1 year agoThere is nuance here. Not every crack is malicious but you have to assume they all are because some of them are. Trusting a source is irrelevant. Many security products will falsely tag cracked software as dangerous just because it’s cracked, not because it found a specific bit of nasty code, and this feeds the idea that you can’t believe when people tell you cracked software is unsafe. But there are many truly bad cracks out there. When in doubt, don’t trust it.
And you should always doubt free shit.
SSDs can get firmware updates like anything else.
I think it’s worse. It’s negligence. If their OS works, they don’t care what it does to the rest of your computer.
