Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the worst experience you had with a famous celebrity or a political figure?
4·1 month agoA former Olympian and World Champion and current TV expert lives in the area where I lived until I was in my 20s. I refereed his son a number of times in the sport this guy was world class in. But like his son was a child playing for fun. This man could not stop shouting at me from the stands and tried to argue with me every single time, one time physically blocking me from going to my changing room. It’s still wild to me how this man, who has seen everything and both played and coached at the biggest stages the sport has to offer, acted like a random ref decision in a game between 9 year olds was going to change the fate of world.
(Also, he was very wrong most of the time. Turns out, professional athletes often do not have a clue about the rules of their sport)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your entirely unimportant and inconsequential hot take?
2·1 month agoI respect your take, but I don’t think it’s inconsequential enough to fit the question

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's that thing the internet insists you be outraged about but you just can't bring yourself to care?
1·2 months agoIdk, I think Andor was one of the best things the Star Wars franchise has ever created while especially Episode II is borderline unwatchable to me.
1935 Germany was still pretty bad…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's one giant LIE that's frequently taught in schools as a lesson?
2·2 months agoOh god, sometimes I feel like my English is pretty good and then stuff like this happens… :D
I really don’t like these jokes because I think they make light of how bad the Nazis were. Obviously fascism in the US is very very bad right now. But by 1939, antisemitic policies and action in Germany had become so bad that most Jews who were able to had already fled the country. The KZs for example already held around 60.000 people, and the Nazis murdered hundreds of Jews during the November pogroms of 1938.
I am fine with jokes linking the US right now to Germany in like 1935 or something.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's one giant LIE that's frequently taught in schools as a lesson?
27·2 months agoIn Germany, a lot of the times it’s taught that we barely did colonialism. Like, “colonialism was bad but it was mostly other countries”. Meanwhile, in reality, German colonialism saw the first mayor genocide of the 21st century.

10·2 months agoIn German schools, horseshoe theory is pretty much taught as a fact.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it morally wrong to be non-vegetarian?
85·3 months agoI would argue that no, it is not morally wrong per se to be non-vegetarian. Meat consumption is not morally wrong in general, it is just morally wrong in our society. We kill way too many animals to be sustainable and every animal you eat contributes to that. We harm climate and ecosystems to sustain our meat consumption. We hold animals captive and make them hurt and suffer. In this society you can not eat meat in a morally okay way.
There’s like half a dozen or so other high-quality clamp building block producers where you can get a similar product for a better price
I honestly don’t like these kinds of memes, they pretty much do the same thing of more of less reducing gender to optics. I feel like it implies that more masculine looking trans women are less valid and things like that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an aspect of you that people don't know about?
24·5 months agoVery few people irl know my actual political beliefs because I water them down constantly in order to make them sound more socially acceptable

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What unethical life hack would you recommend to others?
13·5 months agoImagine if like 5% or so of people in a Grocery store acted like he does. Would be so much easier to actually steal something with security being busy all the time with the non-stealers
I 100% don’t understand the thought process here at all. Why did they think this would make sense?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•It's 2026, which tech did you realistically think we would have by now?
14·6 months agoThat’s not tech, that’s policy. Technologically there are no holdups to this, capitalism just needs it to not be so

4·6 months agoGood synthetic meat exists, it’s just more expensive to produce so you usually can’t buy it at like a corner store or something

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most brilliant idea that you ever had?
15·6 months agoFlirting with my beautiful, smart and altogether amazing wife back when we were just associates. I congratulate myself on that brilliant idea every day.
