TC is not for webbrowsers. Disable the app with the big fat warning box in TC and good.

If you want adblocking in the web, use a browser with adblocking capabilities. Firefox, Cromite, Duckduckgo browser, to name a few.

Games, don’t see how, except maybe MMORPG, since TC utilizes a internal VPN, like all other rootless filters.

Is it a Manifest v3 thing?

People keep recommending Chromium based browsers, as if Google can’t cut them off from further security updates at will, just like they are screwing with AOSP releases …

Isn’t that exactly to be expected, and part of the whole point of the thing? It’s preventing connections to abusive service endpoints, of course it’s going to break things. The idea is that the things it breaks are not desirable, even when it means a game doesn’t work anymore. You have to choose which you want more: privacy, or playing that game.

i would say netGuard is “the best non-root firewall now”

but it’s been years since i stopped using rethink and i never needed to go back to it

I seem to remember hearing NetGuard doesn’t work properly for some configuration and that it doesn’t support IPv6 properly (?) Or maybe it was something VPN/Wireguard related… My memory is a bit vague

AFAIK TrackerControl was also based on NetGuard.

i use and used it on different phone brands and tablets too

          🤷

I usually use AdAway for this. When installing a new app, use PCAPdroid and AdAway’s logger to find tracker servers apps connect to that isn’t blocked by AdAway’s default lists and block them manually. (And don’t enable internet connection at all unless it’s really necessary, using AFWall)

Debloating apps using LuckyPatcher before all this is also useful, like there’s no reason to have bytedance sdk running. Though it’s arguable that LuckyPatcher itself isn’t really trustworthy, so I usually have it disabled (by Android; using adb or using something like the ‘Blocker’ app) and enable it only when I need it.

Thanks for the RethinkDNS referral, albeit a bit of a learning curve. I had been using DDG protection for a while (out of laziness), but started to wonder if it cut the mustard.

Does DDG provide protection system wide? If it’s only the browser I believe Firefox with uBO or Cromite would be better?
