It’s not about their right to self-censor but users feel they have to do it to avoid penalties when they should not have to. Those mild forms of self-censorship are only the beginning. On Youtube you can already see people re-inventing newspeak by replacing ordinary words like “killed” with “unalived” to avoid algorithmic penalties. That’s fucked up.

Yes, this is exactly it. Personally I’m so sick of watching otherwise interesting YouTube videos where the creator uses stupid euphemisms for everything. The corporate mandated sanitisation of the major internet platforms is nightmarish.
