    Yeah… a lot of people with large follower counts and are a bit TOO “online” probably have bot farms crank up their numbers. And the platforms definitely know who is doing shit like this and basically gave up on trying to majorly resolve it since it also juiced their own metrics for investors. Still, nice to see conformation that, once again, Elon is full of shit.

    True of virtually every celebrity and professionally managed account at this point.

    Hell, I’ve got a few hundred followers on Bluesky and would be shocked if one in ten is a real person

      My first Fediverse account was on Pixelfed. I am nobody, but I immediately attracted a couple dozen followers. All blank profiles, all followed exactly five accounts, all suspiciously algorithmic names. They’ve all gone quiet.

      Disingenuous social media participation is everywhere. I think we might call it “cyberturfing.”
