Whenever I start a game from a non-english studio, I always set voices to their local language. You almost always get a more engaging experience that way
Plus, it’s kinda fun trying to figure out when a character has a vocal quirk that doesn’t translate well
Resident Evil isn’t nearly as good without the cheesy lines delivered in English IMO. And a number of Korean games have really good Japanese dubs. Other than that I tend to agree.
You know, I never considered that - I either set it to Japanese, English or my native language. Though I think the issue here is that most games that end up on my radar are probably going to be made primarily for one of those audiences (see CD Project Red).
I have read excellent critiques of the Polish voice acting from Cyberpunk, but honestly I wouldn’t bother playing a game in a language I don’t understand if there is decent VA in a language I do understand.
It’s ok if you played it already so you don’t have to have your eyes glued to the subtitles. Which is fine for dialogues and cinematics, less so for dialogues during gameplay
