Hi all,

I want to upskill my aunty. She has below average skills, and does things like send a screenshot, when I want the copy paste of the text string (not an image).

She stores files and folders in the wrong place.

Writes notes on paper, rather than copy / paste.

She wrangles spreadsheets in a very tedious manner. Rather than running formulas, or selecting and dragging a series etc.

Are there any online courses, even if paid, that are QUALITY, that can take someone up a level to be a bit more savvy?

She has an admin job, and fears for her work. So, I want to help her.

Yes, her work has said they’ll pay if she finds something appropriate, but I said I’d look to help.

Any help would be great! Thank you

You don’t need to pay for courses. There’s countless videos even whole series that teach you Word and Excel from basics to advanced on youtube. But if you must pay, I’d say Udemy but I really don’t see why you would pay when there’s free.

HOWEVER, you can learn this stuff hopefully she has the aptitude to actually apply it. That is two very different things.

Seriously, I still have analysts and business managers that email me screenshots of Excel data rather than copying and pasting.

The local community college or community center will likely have these that double as social gatherings.

Check your local library and government career agencies. They sometimes have free or cheap classes for computer literacy.

The for dummies series of books works well for some too. Just be cautious not to use an outdated one.

CBT Nuggets has great videos for more intermediate and advanced topics too.

In-person one to one instruction if possible. Work on those particular tasks and also how to use search engines to get unstuck. Once you reach a basic level you can use online resources to get through things, but maybe she isn’t there yet
