Lemmy didn’t but reddit marketing campaign, and new front page algorithm drew a new public. Sure they banned the totally not nazi edge lord and Trump hardcore far, but they attracted the I don’t care about politic, vote for a personality but never left public too which you add the hordes of pro Russia/Israel troll/bots at the point the world news sub is unreadable
Only western far right subs are quelled. Indian right wing subreddits literally openly talk about lebonsbrauming my country and taking our land. Saw an open discourse on a random Indian sub of a dude saying they should give the “Felani treatment” to Bangladeshis. Felani was a 15 year old child shot by Indian border guard btw.
Just now saw a bullshit infographic on r/mapporn showing “islamization” of Bangladesh when its quite literally population increase. East Bengal had been Muslim majority since the British and the partition led to many minorities leaving. I wont make excuses for religious fundamentalists in my country but religious fundamentalism is a topic where INDIAN RIGHT WINGERS shouldn’t lecture anyone. Of course this is without even delving into their mass propaganda campaign about every sigle facet of my cojntr started from the genocide WE FACED in 1971(chaddis somehow victimize themselves in a genocide we faced) and everything else.
Westerners upvote it blindly because they too are mostly islamophobic, liberals included.
Sorry for this random rant, Reddit is very very right-wing. You just are not familiar with the spaces that are.
World News specifically went bad but I don’t find Reddit as a while has changed. It’s still more left leaning, albeit it’s a large diverse platform where you can find almost any view.
But I mean on my local subreddit I got shouted down for criticizing Lenin so it’s still pretty left lol.
I don’t think Lemmy is large enough to have had a noticeable impact on the makeup of Reddit.
I would not say that it is only lemmy. Reddit itself has changed, and that’s why I think there are different people there.
Not even some moisturiser?
