Man this brings back memories. I played it not too long after the second game came out as they had 20$ copies at my local Costco. I remember being in awe with it at the time. When I finished it, I instantly went and bought the second which solidified even more my love for the franchise. I played every game afterwards, but they lost me at Black Flag (and even then I played a lot of it). Never played another game since, the magic from these early instances will stay there.

There are many genes that affect the color of our hair and skin. Dark colors are caused by higher amounts of melamine in hair/skin. Those darker traits are dominant genes. In the same vein, two black people can have a child that will have lighter skin than them if the parents carry recessive genes and pass them on.

But it is even more complex than that because there are so many factors that affect the expressivity of genes : the environment, the diet or even other genes.

And don’t get me started on genre/sex… Biology is sooo complex, and genetics is just one of its branch, but people want to believe it’s simple to justify their bigotry. I studied biology for two years at university and I just know that I know practically nothing about it…

I love your use of Shutter Island as an exemple of a movie that tried too hard to be smart and mindbinding (even though I am usually a Scorsese fanboy). I felt a similar way about Inception. In comparison, Coherence surpassed both those movies in that regard with a budget of only 50k$.

However, in a completely different line, I loved John Wick because it was just about a guy going all berzerk at people that killed his dog. It was not trying to do anything else than being about people shooting at each other, but it was directed so well that I was hooked from the get-go.

The number of times I have expressed criticism at movies and people were lashing out at me for pointing out those shortcomings. I never said I did not like the movie, just that it was not a masterpiece. For some people a movie is either good or bad, and if you point out some criticism, then you did not like it and you are wrong for it.

I second this. Just started and I love it so much. It is so easy to learn how to make a basic loaf of bread yet so rewarding. And even if you fail, you still get bread, just a bit stiff or full of holes, but it will taste like bread. At the same time it’s a craft you can continue developping for a good while if you get hooked, because making the perfect loaf takes practice.

As you said, the guy has great concept ideas, but he doesn’t know how to build on them. So many endings are so stupid and far fetched it would be comical if it were a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure episode…

Just saw the movie recently for the first time, funny coincidence. And yeah I was kinda taken aback the first time we see it. I thought it was some kind of wardrobe malfunction left out accidentally. But nope, they wanted to be sure we saw it in every outfit lol.

I have a slight hearing loss. If I play a movie with a sound designed for 5.1 on stereo, I will really have a hard time understanding the dialogue. If I switch to 2.0 (if available), I can hear almost everything perfectly.
