  • yeah I actually started using gnu screen and doing ctrl-fun-alt f2 but I found it a bit cumbersome and I was not using it enough. I feel a bit silly but someone mentioned virtual desktops and that is the direction im going for now. easy to move over to and keeps persistent with reboots. I have one on one side for large output and two on the right for when its not as important. that is more than enough for my current use but hopefully if I get more back into the habit I will subdivide more.

  • You know its kinda funny. Im a masker but during the pandemic I was amazed at things people seemed to do or say they do. On the one side you had neighbors using their dog to trades stuff and its like. Um a big warm biologically active surface. Not the smartest. Then like people don’t seem to understand distancing and masking in terms of math. Outdoor is different than indoor and ventilation matters. I had some people saying they did not go outside during lockdowns (not lockdowns like someone actively had it in the household but city wide ones). Its like you can go outside just don’t get within ten feet. That being said really early on when we did not know shit my wife would spray down deliveries with lysol and only opened them to check what they had but left them be until needed rather than putting them on shelves and such.

  • if you have a rice cooker you can cook lentils with the rice and they are so small it cooks right up. Can add any veg or spices you like and the key with the rice cooker is the harder something is to cook the smaller you need to cut it up. I know you said veg but you can throw raw chicken in if its cut up small enough without poisoning yourself. I put that in just to showcase the cutting things ups small. You just can’t beat beans and rice for macronutrients vs cost. If you want to go for a superfood that is not to expensive buckwheat is amazing.

  • I view myself as a centerist. Left of center. Thing is that, in the us, there is no conservatives anymore. Closest would be the libertarians but even they are like basic scientology bringing the people in to then bring them into the thetan thing. Balanced bugets, pay as you go, respect for the history and past of your country while recognizing obvious problems and celebrating getting passed them to a better way, looking for consensus and regulating commerce and recognizing labor. Anyway this lack of real conservatives means its pretty much left or lunacy. Take your pick. Center is as real conservative as you get with any sanity. Since Im kinda left its pretty easy of a decision for me. Keep in mind center to me is not the middle of our republicans and democrats because again one is bat shit crazy. So someone trying to claim center because they are taking a bit from both viewpoints is not center to me. To me you have to take the center of sanity and not include crazy assed bull-trump.

  • Yeah. @petter1@discuss.tchncs.de has a valid point but as we all know validity does not equal truth. regular rail is one of the most efficient modes of transit and high speed rail degrades due to the speed but high speed generally does not compete with regular rail as much as air travel due to the long distance which is not more efficient than the high speed rail. In addition high speed rail tends to be electrical while most regular rail is diesel or worse and the electricification alone brings its co2 per personmiles below the low speed. The other thing it competes with or replaces is car travel which it is more efficient than although Im not sure how that plays out with very efficient electric cars but my guess is it still would win by volume for even something like the aptera and of course the high speed rail is going much faster getting you there in timeframes more like air travel.
