Also it’s good to let people know because dogs absolutely love that shit and you have to be careful to keep it out of areas dogs can get at it.

I worked in a green house and one customer’s dog dug up an entire tree she planted to get at the blood meal she put in the bottom of the hole. Dog was okay, but needed to stay at the vets a few days to monitor the vomiting and their iron levels.

  • It would if there’s already a therapeutic medication available(but more research could create a cure, or better therapies).

Usually insurance will deny a medication for these diseases either because the medication currently available is older(no one prescribes that anymore!), or it’s too expensive, or it’s too new/was developed in another country. For example ireland developed a new medication for narcolepsy, but it’s impossible to get in the US, nevermind getting insurance coverage.

I’m on one med that was developed in the 60’s and it’s the only one that actually works. It’s over $300 a month. The other newer one I tried made in the 90’s is over $1000 a month and doesn’t work as well. Insurance tried to deny coverage for both.

The problem with older meds is there’s fewer manufacturers so they can charge whatever they want due to lack of competition. There’s little demand, so the few people who need it are charged out the ass for them since insurance will deny deny deny.

  • This could be very good for people with orphan diseases(diseases that are rare enough that they aren’t profitable for private companies to research)

Also, having an orphan disease often results in insurance companies denying coverage for everything because they don’t have a policy written up for that specific disease… so there’s no script for the workers to follow. Then your doctor has to argue with them, which can take weeks, in the meantime you have no medication.

Yeah, I’m not mad or anything. I wish I could’ve cooked up my own meds when insurance denied me life giving meds because they’d never heard of my disorder.

  • That’s why I added if you have the means, I absolutely understand if you don’t. I just had a tooth extracted that was overdue by a few years. Just didn’t have the money to get it filled before it cracked in half and I was in excruciating pain for months. I get it.

Maybe try a community health center if you have one near you? They usually do a sliding scale and can make referrals to doctors who work with uninsured or under-insured people. That’s how I got my tooth taken care of without being thousands in debt after. Just google “community health centers near 'name of town & state.” That is if you feel like pursuing it. Totally get it if you don’t, but the above info can help with other health related issues too.

Either way, I hope even a little of that info is helpful to you. I fucking hate healthcare that’s useless AND expensive. Wishing you the best.

  • Ugh. Sometimes I think drs just say “it’s all in your head” as an easy way to handwave people out the door. They get paid regardless if they solve your problem or not. I’m sorry that happened to you. If you aren’t sleeping well that’s an issue. Any sleep specialist worth their salt knows this.

It took me about 10 years to get my diagnosis so I feel this. If you have the means maybe seek out a different sleep specialist and do a second test under that one. It’s frustrating that to need to do that, but unfortunately that’s what it comes to when you run into asshole doctors who don’t care, don’t bother listen, or just assume your a moron and your suffering is your own doing.

Best luck to you! I hope you get it figured out and find some relief soon

  • I’m aware of some vegans stances being against having pets, but if people are feeding their cats and dogs a vegan diet at least some portion of vegans aren’t against it.

For folks who want pets who are also vegan they should choose a species compatible with that instead of forcing it on an animal who’s biology isn’t going to thrive under those conditions.
