There’s a reason for those “slower traffic move right” signs. People drive at different speeds - if the people behind want to go faster than the people in front, it’s their responsibility to let them pass, so long as there’s a safe space in another lane to do so.

I never understood the fight against nihilism, as if it’s inherently bleak. I came to the conclusion that nothing truly matters a long time ago, but that doesn’t keep me from feeling like stuff matters, and doing what matters to me. Subjective meaning can still drive you to pursue and live a good life even while you’re aware that objective meaning doesn’t exit. Happiness feels good, which is enough for me.

I don’t even have to pretend I’m not working when I’m in the office. I’m constantly being interrupted by people to the point where I only get maybe 2 hours of good working conditions total throughout the day. I may spend a good amount of my time at home blatantly not working, but even then I’m still getting more work done in a day than trying and failing to work for 8 hours in the office.

In the same way that climate deniers think they know what they’re talking about because they have an elementary school-level understanding of the weather, flat earthers think they know what they’re talking about because they have an elementary school-level level understanding of physics, and antivaxxers think they know what they’re talking about because they have an elementary school-level understanding of medicine, social darwinists think they know what they’re talking about because they have an elementary school-level understanding of evolution. They heard “survival of the fittest” and were convinced that’s all the nuance there was to have about the topic.

One pizza place by my old house in the bad part of Minneapolis always had a bunch of cars in the parking lot. One day I decide to try it; I manage to find a parking spot, walk in, and the place is pretty much empty. I order a pizza, take it home, and it’s one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever eaten. That place simply cannot be a legitimate business.

I want to clarify that your comment isn’t a joke or hyperbole; from what I can tell, many conservative men honestly think that if you’re going to portray a woman in media, it should be for the sexual benefit of a male audience. Portraying a woman in a way that makes them less sexually appealing - even if that simply makes their portrayal more realistic and less sexually exaggerated - is considered “woke.”

It was ruined for me when I was getting my masters in genetics and learned that “mitochondria” is plural, and the singular is “mitochondrion.” So, it’s either “the mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell” or “the mitochondrion is the powerhouse of the cell,” and neither feel right.

  • Try Steambot Chronicles! It’s my favorite game of all time by a wide margin, but it’s been forgotten by time. It’s a really cool adventure game with a ton of different things to do, from piloting a giant robot to playing different musical instruments in a band, to decorating your own little apartment, and a bunch of other stuff! There’s a lot of dialogue choices to make too that can affect how people treat you, and lead to a few different endings, including being a hero vs a villain. The graphics and soundtrack are great, too! I can’t recommend it enough!

People like to commit, though. They want to commit. They want to make an account and be done. The ability for established users and communities to move around is a great feature that makes Lemmy superior to other sites, but it really needs to work on making new users feel comfortable enough to stay put when they’re first figuring things out, because if a new user decides to leave, they’re probably not switching instances, they’re switching platforms.
