Yeah absolutely don’t just paste in IDE and hit compile, but it usually gets you going in the right direction even if it gets some of the specifics wrong. Sometimes I don’t even know what to call the concept I’m looking for and describe my understanding of what I want in a fair amount of detail. Goofle can do fuckall with that, whereas GPT will say “It sounds like you probably mean…” and at least give me a starting point or a phrase to search in the docs.

Speaking as one of the “everyone else”, it’s not just a pass on the kitchen, but a deal-breaker for the entire house. I look at this and all I see is so many of my weekends being wasted getting it to a state that my wife and I would even consider acceptable.

And the AI is trained on the shitty search results. It just parses them many times faster than a human reader can, which does at least make it better at getting to the fucking point. Once paid advertising is fully integrated with LLM, it will be as shitty and useless as traditional search. And then the entire world will collectively hop to the next trend so it can get hyper-monetized/enshittified, too.

It’s not just you. At some point, search’s primary purpose went from “finding the information you’re looking for” to “getting paid to put links in front of you”. Then they kept iterating on it, quarter by quarter, for a very long time.
