  • Today I sat down at the computer around 8:30, had lunch around 10:55 - 12:00, then at 13:00 - 14:30 I went for a walk with my wife and 6 month old son to feed ducks which he absolutely loved, and I stopped working at 16:10. Adding all that together should equal to… I don’t care. The company who bought us and ruined everything had a 1.5 hrs townhall yesterday with 880 attendees, equating to some €30k lost in man power.

We did something like that. We both had talked about getting married, so we were both on the same page (this is very important). We both went and looked at rings, decided which we’d want and which sizes fit us, then I bought them and asked the jewler to engrave the date of the proposal. The wife wasn’t allowed to see, obviously, so she only knew that it was going to happen *someday * but not when.

The date went great and she said yes. Everyone happy.

I recommend my colleague to do the same. He did not. Now he’s trying to return the ring which is both too big and wrong style.

It’s not wrong, but it feels a bit like some tech articles you’ll see which are obviously just created to fluff up a CV. I wouldn’t say avyttring here is flat out wrong, just kinda… lacking.

But yeah, /boot holds “system boot loader files”, sure, but that’s a bit vague. It should contain your kernel and initramcpio and IIRC Grub also had its config here. That’s pretty much it. I would’ve rather said /boot contains the kernel.

“device files” it’s so vague that it’s almost wrong IMO. At first glaze I would’ve thought that it means drivers rather than, say, “interfaces to devices”

In Sweden it’s stigmatized because of “jantelagen” (a set of written unwritten social rules, basically, don’t think you’re better than anyone else and don’t boast). For example I’ve got a high paying job as a software developer, so talking to my unioned electrician friend who makes significantly less about their $120 salary bumps is kind of awkward. If he found out how much I make I’m pretty sure there’s a chance he’d do talking to me for a while.

But I’d like to say I’m staying humble still. I was about to study to be an electrician when I got a message on LinkedIn which landed me my job as a developer.

I’m also not above admitting that we make too damn much compared to our peers who do jobs which actually contribute to society (teachers like my wife or electricians like my friend). But I’m gonna ride the wave, try to max my salary, and try to encourage our son to not discard jobs like electricians, carpentery, etc.

  • This is the way. There is a GParted distro that you can boot from a USB-drive that will allow you to move the partition and expand it to take up the free space Windows left.

You should first install GParted to familiarise yourself a little with how the GUI looks. It’s relatively simple, definitely simpler than parted, but it doesn’t hurt to have a look around before doing it live.

It’s also good to note that everything you do in GParted needs to be applied before it’s actually done. You “cannot” accidentally delete a whole partition without actually hitting an apply button.

  • I use IntelliJ for web development (switched from a Java based team to web based) and I don’t really notice any problems. Even with VSC and VS running simultaneously.

I don’t remember how it was in my previous team as I’ve walled of those memories and experiences for mental health.
