Yeah, managed to pick it up in a couple weeks, became more efficient over the course of a year or so. One thing that helped initially was learning on a keyboard with completely blank keycaps, therefore preventing me from cheating and just using my eyes.

I’m now still using the same keyboard, and can touch type flawlessly. However I still have trouble with number 6 :(. QWERTY.

I get your point. But unfortunately the sad truth is, even IF we can convince techie nerds to switch, do you really believe we could convince the vast majority of the ignorant public? The answer is no. And even as a techie who works with computers on a daily basis, I have my reservations about Matrix. It is a slow, buggy, hot mess for the most part, and it’s even more inconvenient when it comes to voice/video chat.

What I’m learning from this is that there is NO FEASIBLE alternative to Discord, let alone one the general public would be willing to switch to. I’ve now got the task of converting my friends to Signal as a temporary half-measure before we have a reliable alternative, but things aren’t looking good.

1. They’re instead scanning your data using AI… Not exactly an improvement.
2. Shitty AI article.

Thanks for the info on Stoat. Unfortunately, all those options either objectively aren’t alternatives, or they have major limitations.

I know. I contacted them, but I still cannot sign in. I am getting “try again later” error messages when signing in for the first time. When checking the browser console, it says InvalidCredentials, despite me being certain I am using the correct ones.

I want to say Stoat… However I’m struggling to even create an account… And I have much more patience than my less-savvy friends.

If like me, you care less about servers and the “social media” aspect, and are just searching for group messaging, voice/video chat with screen-sharing capabilities, then Signal Desktop will suffice. That is what I’m preparing to suggest. You can now also sign up without a phone number which is a bonus.

That should work fine, at least until Stoat matures. As a bonus, doubles down as a replacement to Whatsapp: two birds, one stone.

I’m more than content with 1080p @ 60Hz

Cheese, crackers, salted peanuts, pretzels, crisps, beer, milk, biscuits. Hot chocolate if I’m in that mood.

I have to admit, there aren’t many, if any, that meet all criteria. Horror seems to be a genre that can be very difficult to pull off well. The sad truth is, most horrors suck. Add in the fact that people have very different levels of fear, and different fears themselves… Yeah, recipe for disaster.

One film I watched recently was more of a psychological horror that messed with my head a little. Pacing is a little on the slower side to begin with. No scares (off the top of my head). Great atmosphere. Interesting deeper meanings that will get you thinking. Plot can be confusing to some, but I think that is by design. It’s called Session 9 (2001) if you are interested. Has some light supernatural themes, but is believable imo. And there are no creepy ghosts, or demons or any of that bullshit. Just tense atmosphere and strange happenings. It has a lower budget, which can show at times, if that’s something that bothers you. It didn’t impact the experience for me however.

I watch horror, so its usually a combination of these, in no particular order:

• Believable plot.
• Believable character actions.
• Lack of common tropes/clichés.
• Quality of filming (angles, shots etc. Not resolution/film quality).
• Atmosphere.
• Tension/unease, and the handling of such.
• Quality and predictability of scares (if any).
• Good pacing.
• Bonus points for layers/deeper meanings.
• Bonus points for good visual effects, e.g. CGI.
• Double bonus points for good practical effects.
• Triple bonus points if I’m scared.

Can be traumatizing for some…
