It’s not too unusual, as subscription sales might be worth the risk if they figure the exclusively isn’t keeping people on Windows/Xbox. And that’s probably true, there’s a ton of Windows users who haven’t swapped for work reasons or because they want kernel level anti cheat, etc.

Plus aren’t most of those games already available on Linux through Steam?

Terraria is one of my favorites and I haven’t had a chance to play Calamity. RetroAchevements had, remarkably, added support for the base game and I think there were hopes for set support of this and any other big mods (tracking completion, doing additional challenges, etc). I’m sure this puts some damper on those efforts.

I’ll have up make do with just trying to finish the Completionist set if the craving hits again (it’s insane, every item in the game must be collected!)

For some reason an Nvidia RTX 5090 and 128gb of DDR5 RAM, because whoever designed this game decided it’d be funny to put a target on my back.

I don’t mind 720p at all, but I play a lot of old games and usually upscaling to 720p on PlayStation 2 games and stuff makes a tremendous difference.

Anything older, CRT filters. Bloom and interlacing make games like Super Metroid very eerie.

I admit, I’m tempted to read the AI answer when I search something; but holy crap is it a patronizing waste of time. Just now I was searching about a game and the long page of AI answer essentially boiled down to “kill stuff to get stronger,” like brah, I know, I’m trying to look up exact formulas here, you piece of shit.

My questions are never answered by it, and when it tries, it’s wrong even with follow up info. Man I really could live without it, lol.

Edit: oh, and this is a relatively new game but on both Google and Bing indexes, the first page and a half are clearly AI generated. Same boilerplate nothingburger answers. No surprise the search AI isn’t good, it’s regurgitating other AI answers. MAN I could live without it.

I don’t buy the bot narrative, but I also won’t say this is a genuine jump in Linux users. Rather, as someone who has done statical research before, a sudden jump like this feels like a change in how that data was gathered plus a rather high point on natural variance.

For starters, why would bot behavior change in a month? Any serious bot network would already be on Linux, so unless bot filtering got significantly worse in a single month, I’m skeptical on that front. I suppose it’s possible a patch to scrapping plugins happened, or a change in bot sensitivity on the researcher side, or something, but you’d assume someone would point that out.

However, Linux adoption explanations are also iffy. The “Year of the Linux” people point to summer being a factor, or maybe Steam machine release. Maybe someone went viral promoting it and somehow… doubled installs? Seems unlikely, although a small jump can be attribed to these factors I suppose.

But back to the statistics – all samples naturally vary over time and this can be a major factor month to month as statical noise exists. If it drops back to, say, 7 or 8%, that’s probably that factor, although this is much less an issue if the sample is large (which I think it is?). It’s also possible there’s a change in measurement error, such as Unknowns getting parsed correctly this month, though I’m not sure if that can explain most of the chunk coming out from Windows. I think these are the explanations I’m leaning towards, though (e.g. the Linux was there all along!)

All I can say from my experience is a jump like this is unnatural and usually points to variance and/or measurement error. Rather than the actual population having a change, the researcher does something different that changes results. It doesn’t necessarily mean the new results are biased (they might be less biased!), but it also doesn’t mean reality has suddenly changed. After all, we’re talking about a doubling of the population; if 300 million use the Internet in the US, that’s 15 million people changing to Linux in a month.

While I agree the price is ridiculous (especially as a non drinker lol) I’m not convinced it’s AI. Looking up Brewskey on an image search, you can find images of similar cans going back 3yrs. Very diverse styles, with common themes of monocle and hops.

That said, trying to find literally any info on artists both past and present is proving difficult. Most info is just about how they make their IPAs and any mention of art is all “the art of brewing” which isn’t what I’m after. There are quite a few beer can artists out there though so I bet someone willing to search Instagram or something might be able to find an artist who contributed to Brewskey.

My God that camera is way too easy to “accidentally” tamper with, lol. At the very least, my kids greese covered finger tips while I stroll by.

Can confirm; I teach statistics and allow take home exams. I don’t even really need guardrails on the math-- if you cheat via LLM, your answer is almost always hilariously wrong.

I was curious about the posts mentioned so I took a look at your history and can kinda see why. The Linux one didn’t make too much sense to me but people were generally nice to you, although understandable skeptical since you’re talking about hardware not working. Honestly you had a bit of a meltdown in that thread, which I think contributed more to the down votes than the initial opinion (like you said, text brings out a worse version of yourself).

The political ones, I mostly pieced together genecide denial (?) which has generally been very unpopular here. To be fair, that was more than a year ago, although what was unpopular then has aged even worse, what with people in Europe getting arrested for pro-Palastinian views and such.

I’m not saying the behavior of mods and such were justified, of course, just… y’know, two sides of the story. You’re in the right to express your views and seek discussion, but others have an equal right to call you out on it-- especially if you get defensive and rude over polite, reasonable responses.

But that’s just my two cents. I only ever comment, and I’ve had moments with people being rude or misunderstanding my intent. It happens, as social media is just that way.

The texture certainly was better, sure. I just remember I wasn’t that impressed by the flavor. I’m used to marinated flank steak which is considerably more sinewy but made up for with seasoning and spices.

Also it was pretty small, and I shared it with my partner. I wanna say 8oz? The guy who bought it to treat us was a real Midwestern American though, so it’s possible he was bamboozled.

No, I know the yen is generally weaker but this was like 15 years ago. I had to double check because it’s was usually 100 yen to 1 dollar but somehow it was 90 yen to a dollar that year. They really screwed up after the pandemic though so it’s so much worse now and will probably get even worse under the current admin.

I think that piece of meat was something like 60,000 yen, or roughly $700 at the time given the exchange rate of the time. But it’s been a while and I didn’t have to pay so… not certain.

Someone once treated me to actual Wagyu steak in Japan. It was good but certainly not hundreds of dollars good; marinades are cheap and makes my usual cheap meats taste wonderful.
