Yes the first dives in Dave the Diver are wonderful with the beautiful pixel art.

But I found this game deeply disturbing: you kill the most fish possible to make the most money possible, but not the dolphins because they are cute. I found this game is a perfect symbol of the overproductivism of our era, while the earth is dying. I know it’s just a game, but the fact the game creator are not even aware of the philosophy their game is carrying, left a bitter taste in my mouth.

And yeah, the game is full of FOMO even in their dlcs, and the huge amount of collabs with other overly popular game make me think, in the end, it’s a pure empty marketing vessel. An it’s fake indie !

Dave the diver DLC is limited in time AND not free…Ouch ! I am glad I have lost interest in the game :)

I am playing 3 games in parallel:

    • Battlefield 4. Discovered only 2 months ago. The game is 10 years old and the server have, at best, only 2000 people in it 😂. But it is great and achievements hunting is fun, quick quick before the servers close !
    • Control. It feels like “x-files, the game”. It’s mysterious, confusing and after all, enjoyable. The art direction and the fights are great.
    • Gris, my small game for the evening. Not really started but it’s the replacement for my previous small game The Gardens Between which was …ok. Enjoyable and short.

Ah, and I have ordered my Steam Deck 🙈

  • At first I found achievements a bit ridiculous, like in the old days at school where you received an image if you did good.

In the meantime, some smart achievements forced me out of my play style and made me try things I would never had the idea of trying. Those are the best achievements for me. The game with such achievements that triggered the achievement crazyneness of mine was Trine 2 😁

  • I played GTA from GTA 1 to GTA 4. I have always been more interested by the story and the atmosphere rather than the free roaming.

What I can say about them:

    • 1 and 2 : a shock. Being so mean and bad was cathartic for me, it was really mind blowing as I am a “too nice” guy
    • GTA 3 : a revolution. Discovering the game on the PS2 of a friend, I was drooling over the beautiful 3D models, the music, everything. I had to wait a bunch of time to get it on PC though.
    • Vice City : wonderful atmosphere, the colours, the music. The story over the top. My favourite.
    • San Andreas: not bad. The missions were interesting, but I felt no connection with the “boys in the hood” atmosphere. At the time, I listened very few hip hop so the whole gangsta rap hype was not interesting to me.
    • GTA 4: I liked the settings, “russian immigrants”. The campaign was cool. However all the rest felt a chore… The mandatory mini games with the gangster calling you every 10 minutes and being angry if I don’t go bowling with him was ridiculous.

Then I gave up GTA all together. To be frank, I was a bit fed up with the American settings. Always the same street, atmosphere, culture… On the other hand, other games like Sleeping Dogs were a breath of fresh air. You really feel in another environment, and something as simple as driving left on the road is a great change.

  • I have read your link but they didn’t say the EGS is at loss specifically because of the 12% cut nor that the Fortnite money is subsidizing the lower cut.

It could be that the EGS is at loss because creating a new store and client from scratch costs money ?

To be honest here, we don’t have the numbers to say exactly how much margin Valve is making. But my guess is the following: if EGS estimated that with a 12% cut they could be profitable if they had enough customers, it makes me think that the cut of valve is way overinflated in regards to their costs.

And yes Fortnite is awfully predatory. But the topic is Valve and Steam there 🙂

  • Maybe, maybe not.

Frankly I don’t even know if this clause can be enforced in Europa. I wanted to point out that we shouldn’t rely on the customer protection laws of each country to address that: this clause shouldn’t exist in the first place.

But to be frank, it most likely doesn’t come from Valve and rather from the games company themselves.
