I’m a recent refugee from Reddit. I really missed this type of r169. I saw in real time as it evolved into a dead end on Reddit. I hope this one lasts a long time
Meanwhile Spotify mobile casually serves me 2 ads per song because it’s insecure about me closing and reopening the app after hearing the same telecom, insurance or other ad for the 20th time in a row.
Doesn’t matter. Plenty of research out there that proves sales go up regardless of which emotion you have, as long as it improves brand awareness. Best is just to avoid ads altogether so that you don’t even know which crap you should hate.
When seeing an ad, I always think they have too much products in stock, or that the thing isn’t good enough to sell without heavy marketing.
My only social media is fedi and ad-blocked YouTube, so I’m so not used to ads anymore that when I do encounter them, I click like the biggest moron.
Yeah, it’s amazing how desensitized we get to ads. At home I have pihole, YouTube revanced, and sponsorblock and only hear ads during Spotify podcasts. Any time I visit someone barebacking the modern internet, it blows my mind how bad the ratio of content to advertising is everywhere. It’s absolutely miserable to try to do anything.
Right‽ I’m only even watching a video to learn something from it, that I, you know, went looking for. I have never been sold anything by a fucking ad. I will seek out your product if I have a need for it. You can not sell me a solution to a question that I have not asked.
you might be interested in tubular or freetube. they are youtube clients for android and pc respectively, that don’t show ads and have sponsor block (a system to automatically skip sponsor segments) build in.
both lack features that youtube has and tubular does not even support youtube accounts, so no commenting, and subscriptions and views are handled locally, BUT they let u watch youtube without ads (or account (yes, its also an upside!))
on that note, whenever i move away from a corpo social media platform or its propriatary clients, its jarring at first, because i lose so many features, but with time i come to realise that i am better off without and would not want to go back
I’ve uninstalled both those apps and moved to GrayJay. I find it so much better. Would highly recommend. It had adblock and Sponsorblock built in. You could log in if you wanted (why??). It’s easy to take your settings between devices. It consolidates all your video platforms (I had stopped using Nebula because their app was crap, but now I can make a seamless playlist of YouTube and Nebula videos in a really good app).
uBlock Origin also blocks all Youtube ads
