There’s this church group that would show up to my university once every year holding signs that read:
"IF YOU ARE:
Liberal
Atheist
Buddhist
Hinduist
Agnostic
Muslim
Etc
Etc
YOU WILL GO TO HELL"
We had a running joke that they could and did put anything they wanted on that sign except “jewish” which would be the only thing that would get them banned from campus lol.

It’s weird that I’ve never heard “Hinduist” before even though “Hinduism” is obviously very common.
Most of these sign holders are still reeling from seeing a nonwhite in a public space. Knowing proper terminologies is not their charge.
Same here, I think the more common way to say a ‘follower of hinduism’ would be to say that they are hindu?
Yeah, I’ve only ever heard “Hindu”. “Hinduist” would be like “Christianist” or “Buddhistist”.
