Arrooooo a good boy?
My dog is old and deaf now so it’s less of a problem anymore, but she used to occasionally go outside and bark at opossums on the back fence in the middle of the night. I was always mortified that she might wake up the neighbors and we’d try to get her back inside as fast as possible, which let me tell you is a struggle when there is an opossum, mom, no I don’t want to come in, I want that thing to come down so I can sniff the shit out of it.
I always wear earplugs to bed, no matter what. I cut a bit less than half of the ends off at an angle so I can sleep with them in my ear comfortably. Cutting them at an angle creates a sort of handle so they don’t get stuck in your ear.
Most air purifiers double as white noise machines. Helps cut down on outside noise a hell of a lot.
More noise? No, thanks. I prefer to isolate the windows
There are also free phone apps that generate lots of different ambient sounds. Finding those let me ditch fans for good, and I have my sweet, soothing sleep sounds anywhere I go.
Study your city’s ordinances and be persistent. It’s an uphill battle but worth it.
