It’s about time people move the fuck off github
Got Eden on my Steam Deck, runs so good. Nintendo could learn a thing or two tbh.
Emulators are legal, there’s enough precedent for that, Nintendo’s just butthurt that their games run better on 3rd party emulators than they do on their own hardware.
Emulators are legal
With the caveat that an emulator cannot copy any copyrighted code to use in the emulation. They try to add as much proprietary code and encryption that it’s nearly impossible to emulate without breaking the law.
It’s scummy, but people have and will continue to find ways around it. But even the smallest of copyright infringements will result in Nintendo’s wrath.
I’m not sure about good. It somehow runs games a little worse than Yuzu did.
tbf, eden is a new development and pretty young compared to yuzu and how mature it was. at least afaik
I know. But I still find it odd, since Eden is a fork of Yuzu, and not something built from the ground up.

eagerly awaiting federation for forgejo, Fediverse ftw
A DMCA takedown, huh? Sounds a lot like what they did with Youtube-dl a few years ago. And ultimately lost. Both youtube-dl and yt-dlp are still (again) on github.
I keep wanting to check things like this out, and then I remember there’s not even any Switch games I want to play. I tried the open world Pokémon game when that came out years ago, purely just to see what they did (it was boring as fuck, as pretty much everyone agree). The only other thing is maybe TotK, but there’s better things (in my opinion) that I still need to play. Shadow of the Erdtree, for example, is something I still need to get around to.
If anyone actually does think there are Switch games worth playing, in your opinion, what are they? I’m curious. I have to admit I avoid most advertising and don’t follow Nintendo stuff, so there could be things I’m not aware of.
I’ve been considering getting a copy of TLOZ Echoes of Wisdom for my Steam Deck. Maybe after Resident Evil Requiem.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have an atmosphere like a Studio Ghibli movie. If that doesn’t appeal to you than I guess you won’t like those games.
Here’s my whole library if you want to see everything I like. Some notable exclusives:
- Super Mario Odyssey - IMO, this is right up there with 64. The game is absolutely packed, biggest in the series, and I love everything they’ve done with new movement techniques.
- Splatoon 3 - And 2, but not like there’s any reason to back to S2 now. I’ve never really been into shooters much, Splatoon, Kid Icarus Uprising, and TF2 are the only ones I’ve really liked. But I do love this game because it’s so unlike ordinary shooters.
- Metroid Dread - Hits all the same highs as Super, but with significantly better combat and bosses. Yes, I’m saying that makes it better than Super.
- Puyo Puyo Champions - Not actually exclusive, but if you want to play this game online, JP players are all on Switch. So functionally, it might as well be exclusive.
- Kirby Air Riders - I waited 22 years for this sequel. I bought a Switch 2 just to play this. And it was worth it. I’m actually blown away by how much higher this game raised the bar from the original.
The Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy if you like JRPGs.
Pretty much all the games made by Nintendo themselves. Mario Odyssey is great and one of their all time best. It’s a psychedelic trip sometimes.
Visual novels are well represented and sometimes more complete than their PC counterparts as it has become pretty dominant in Japan. Other than that, I’ve never really gotten into Nintendo’s first party games either. Somehow, they just don’t hold my attention.
I think the Bayonetta games are really fun and closer to the old school God of War trilogy than the new God of War games. Its a fun hack and slash that you can button mash your way through, but is a lot more fun if at the very least you learn how to dodge offset. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=subkGpouSeo
This person goes into more detail with longer gameplay
I really enjoyed Zelda BOTW. I beat it. Then I did this weird glitch that requires you to beat it twice more without dying once, but you get to keep this crazy Light Bow thing forever. I spend like a week accomplishing that glitch. Then I spent like 6 months hoping on it every once in a while, just to ride around the map and shoot things with that bow. Eventually I lost my game save, and now I don’t play it anymore… I would, if I didn’t have to spend another week on a glitch to get my bow back. Now I just look at it, remembering the good times.
While BOTW is a masterpiece in my opinion, it‘s not a Switch exclusive. You don‘t even need a Switch or Switch emulator to play it. Many people even recommend emulating the WiiU version specifically. The WiiU is a much better platform for Zelda games anyway.
The metroid prime 1 remake is fantastic, metroid dread is pretty good too. Nintendo has a unique style with their first party games and while that’s a good thing for the market as a whole, you’re right that if it’s not your cup of tea there’s really not much on the switch for you.
I feel the same but what it comes down to for me is I hate Nintendo IPs and for the most part it is the Nintendo games that bring people to their consoles.
Pretty much everything else is available elsewhere. Or at least that is the impression I get. Does the console have any noteworthy exclusives that aren’t Nintendo characters.
Pokemon would be the main thing that appealed for me too but I liked red, blue, stadium and that was about it. I didnt play much after that and what I did didnt stick so I think I’d have similar feelings to you towards the new ones.
Github is owned by a multinational megacorp and has been for 8 years, and given how they’ve severely botched windows 11 updates with impunity they’re clearly only beholden to themself. It should come as no great shock at all that they only “care” what other multinational megacorps want.
Right?! Why is there this “narrative” that if something is banned from GitHub it’s like the end for that software…
Who the hell is GitHub? Fuck em.
Despite that, they say that GitHub didn’t even respond to their counterclaims, and just shut the whole thing down the minute Nintendo asked.
You are a fly on the wall of one of the biggest tech companies in the world. They have no interest in going to court for you just so you can keep your emulator on their site.
That’s not what I think of when I hear the phrase fly on the wall.
All of them still work. I’m running Yuzu as my daily still.
Eden is a more advanced fork of Yuzu with better compatibility. No reason to keep using Yuzu IMO.
Eden runs games slower than Yuzu, though. I don’t get the same framerate in, say, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Eden like I had with Yuzu.
Have you a link? Dl theynsupport swirch 2? Inonly wantnto try Mario Kart
Since the switch 2 is an entirely different console, a lot of work will need to be done to emulate it. I would wait several years.
Thought as much, just with it beint such a minor update I thought maybe in trms of architecure it was much the same
If you want to keep an eye on Switch 2 hacking progress go to the GBATemp forums.
You’ll quickly find out that the Switch 2 is almost impossible to get into. ^^;
It sure would be cool if people could shut the fuck up about emulators so they’d have fewer eyes on them. Especially (but not limited to) AA, Polygon, and particularly Kotaku.
