Why I would even care about my nationality?
It doesn’t bring me support and conform. Is the complete opposite.
A country which has been ones of those which took the longest time to de-penalize homosexuality (up to 1997), a country who made illegal being trans until 2011.
It is better now? not at all, still denying minors to change their gender, still not recognizing non binaries in the civil register. As an adult who rejects no realizing being queer as a minor due to the circumstances and taboo. It kinda makes me feel sick.
Why on earth I even celebrate the people? A population filled with religious fundamentalist and bigots who don’t care about anything but becoming rich and meet the cheeto or soccer teams and their beating wife star players.
Why I should even care about the politicians? Parties and Goverments who are friendly with the most notorious pieces of shit in current era of human history.
One party who was friendly with the neighbor country regime which is a religious conservative dictatorship that destroyed its country and still is the country with the biggest violence against trans people in south america, and the current government that is friendly with the conservative religious party destroying the United States, while finding what ever excuse to persecute trans people.
I’m sorry but I won’t feel pride on such a dipshit nation.
A country who abandons its people for being minorities is a worthless nation.
I exist, I’m queer. If my existence is a annoyance for someone’s feelings about being born on a piece of land, then you can fuck off.
“Nationalism is power hunger tempered by self-deception” (Orwell)
Nationalism is basically a cancer calling dibs on everything you enjoy, and lying it must be related to the country. And what you say about abandoning minorities is all countries (and yes, this means all national identities are useless).
Well said! In addition as others already said in the past: why be proud of something you have no influence on? I’m not proud that the sun was shining yesterday, because I had no influence on it.
ive always been frustrated by the core of nationalism. you think that me bring born here gives me some specific spiritual connection to it besides the cultural ideals? it feels no different from saying that, because you were born near someone who was good at guitar, you must also be musically talented. it totally makes sense to me how this sort of pseudospiritual idea of “you were born here so you are _____” could escalate into “you were born here/of a certain skin color so you are not worthy of life”
I’ve always thought of nationalism as a religion, to be honest.
