Not a Barber but my Barber loves me, and I him. You are a posable manequin meant to hold a position. They will gently guide your head to the desired position whenever a change is required. Gently acquiesce. Tip generously.

This. They apply light pressure so you know which axis to move your head in.

Also, I go to a guy that still only charges under $20 for a really good haircut. I give him double his fee, because he’s under charging for his time and skill.

I always tip well too. The gal who does my hair charges $40 and I usually tip that same amount. She also doesn’t not charge me extra for a cut just because I’m a woman, which is so extremely awesome.

It always pisses me off when stylists charge more for women’s cuts, even when we have short hair. So dumb.

Long hair is easier to cut than short hair. You can give someone with butt length hair a trim down to shoulder length in two minutes.

Which is crazy that women pay more for any haircut, long or short.

I don’t even go to locations that charge more for women anymore. I check pricing before I go anywhere.

Nah, it was just a joke mostly. Usually we’re yappin’ about something entirely different so when I need to look down he just shoves my head down lol, but there’s also times when he’s cutting the back of my head that I go to look down and he pulls my head back up.

Not a barber, but one worth going to will have good communication on the issue.

I get like two haircuts in a year and the barber always makes sure to ask me several times if im sure I want a buzz cut. Thats how I know they’re a good one, even if their skill is pointless for me.

I think I need to do this. I hate doing to get a haircut and they never listen to me. I’m sure I’ll look horrible in a buzz cut but at least it removes their freedom to do worse and shorter means I can go less often

Best part about the buzz cut is you could do it at home.

Plus I bet it will look better on you than you think :)

It really depends on your hair. My buzzcut looks awkward for a week or two but having the hair all grow back the same length makes it look a lot better down the road. I have also been blessed with the thick kind of hair everyone seems to like so maybe this isn’t the way everyone should do it.

I mean that’s the actual problem I have: no longer have that thick hair. It started thinning out early and now it’s unavoidable. The thing is every barber or stylist wants to give me a combover despite me clearly saying not to from the beginning, and making them go back to fix it when I notice they did it anyway

But combovers only have a short window where they can reduce the obviousness of thinning hair, and quickly just call attention to it. It’s way too late for a combover to look reasonable on me, it just looks desperate and cringey.

I have to admit to some minor amusement when I wake up with a weird Mohawk though

I started shaving my head bald about 15 years ago and the only part of that, that pissed me off is that I didn’t start doing it 55 years ago…

With that said, back when I used barbers, they always wanted to keep my head still so they could frame it in the mirror.

I only cut my wife’s hair, but the only time I would like her to look down is when I’m at the nape of her neck.
