It has been amazing watching the transformation around San Francisco the past few years. Just a few years ago, all the billboard advertisements and conversations you would hear were about cloud services or big data. The whole start up grifting ecosystem quickly changed to AI everything. Now every advertisement is some stupid company that wants you to use its “harness” or “router” in addition to paying for your model access. Everyone is trying to keep up the same hype game but now everyone is just a glorified prompt engineer sitting between your money and a handful of AI companies. It’s a very weird ecosystem to see a lot of people trying to sell useless shit to each other with Anthropic/OpenAI/etc in the middle.

And if you’re some poor bastard just getting out of school hoping to get into any kind of job and you think being a prompt engineer is going to be a career path… Just LOL

My son drew his younger brother the other day. Now, I’m not saying it’s a shitty scribble, but it’s no Vermeer. I’ll take this over any AI slop or those garbage NFTs because this little drawing will always be more valuable to me.

last week i saw a person at uni reading a book on their computer like this. i wanted to take a picture but then i remembered it’s more fun, funnier, and more respectful to just doodle it afterwards :3

Doodle on line paper of a person reading a book on their laptop. The laptop is open and held, rotated like how one typically reads books, with the screen (and the book’s contents) on the left and the laptop’s keyboard and trackpad on the right.

(Poorly) drawn on Android, via the FOSS app Butterfly (I don’t use it much, but I recommend it if you want a basic FOSS drawing app to do the occasional doodle in)

Thanks OP for inspiring me to doodle this silly little thing. It’s been years since I did much drawing, so it was fun to get out of my comfort zone.

I drew on some wood a few weeks ago. Need to find some more wood scraps to try some more.

Tempting, although wouldn’t that mean a lot of groves that are difficult to clean out and also the darker lines are achieved with a build up of wax in them.

The straight lines lost some of their wax, maybe it wasn’t dry enough yet when rubbing it and also I think I should try using a cloth wrapped around a sanding block next time instead of a wad of kitchen roll. But this is initial experimenting so far on free wood that I have. Need to find some more, most of what I have is split fence posts which aren’t great and it all needs heavy sanding from years of being exposed to the elements. Still, its free.

Coasters and placemats is my thinking, they shouldn’t get as much direct food contact. A lot of wood boards I see that I could buy do seen quite thick for that kind of use case though. 1-2cm is quite thick, but the only thinner options I see are plywood, which could work but isn’t the same.

Maybe chonky coasters could look nice though. Even add a texture to the sides of it?

I’d rather see your shittiest scribble than one AI slop

What am I supposed to do with this, then?

Hell yeah. I’ve never done any visual art before but I just started trying last week, specifically as an anti-AI act. Just drawing what I see when I’m bored, and following a book I got.
