      We moved on from just grunts and gestures.

      Edit: it’s ironic, conveying that the meme shouldn’t be taken literally or seriously. The “character” who would genuinely make that mistake or forget fill in the bottom caption wouldn’t be very competent or someone you should listen to. It’s kind of like being a jester or clown who makes a fool of themself intentionally. Classic self depreciation.

      Things like this are common among non-native English speakers. Prepositions are hard to get right if you aren’t used to them.
