Did we build the world wide web or did we just shitpost for the lulz for decades without realizing we gave all the benefits of our shitposting to Mark Zuckerberg?

enshittification just means corporate control and advertising
That is what enshittification means. It is specifically a corporation making it’s product shittier because they’ve cornered the market.
Idk why you’re getting downvotes, you’re exactly right
What does that have to do with living in the moment?
If it’s a memory you wish you could relive… Why don’t you just live it while you have the chance?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•As a young person, how can you achieve any sense of stability when it feels like no career path or job is stable?English
9·17 days agoHi I’m an American doctor here. I’m going to parrot something my father told me growing up. (I come from a family of doctors). “They will always need doctors”.
I resisted it because I took it for granted but he was right. Being a doctor is among the most stable lifestyles you can find today. I live like I think everyone should be able to live. I can tell my job when I’m not available. People take my opinion seriously(even in non medical matters).
The road to being a doctor is hard as balls and will take a minimum of 7 years (often more) before you can do anything with it but you get to help people, you get to think critically every day, and the life is stable. Tbh I can’t imagine myself doing anything else now. (If you had asked me during training how I felt, I would have told you this was the biggest mistake of my life).
The road to the end is very very long and it is very very stressful. I felt like I was going to die during it several times.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you think Americans will react if USA drops a Nuke on Iran?English
8·29 days agoDropping a nuclear bomb is essentially a world ending event at this point. Pakistan shares a border with Iran, they have nukes. China and Russia also have nukes.
I think the immediate reaction in the US will be of disgust and fear. I think most MAGA people would be against dropping a nuke.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s your go to show that you fall asleep to?English
1·1 month agoI do not watch TV to fall asleep, too stimulating. I read for a little bit, but mostly just try to close my eyes in silence.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•To all the men here, are y'all satisfied with the male friendships y'all have in life?English
3·1 month agoYeah. I don’t expect anyone to help me with anything. I try my best to be available to people and I have a pretty active social life.
I have dozens of cousins who I’ve known and been friends with since I was born. I have family friends that I have some vague memories of us taking baths together. I have a group of friends I’ve known since middle school (~25 years ago) that probably includes 7 people. I have some friends who I’ve known since college which could be 2 to 15 people depending on how I’m feeling that day. I am still in touch with 5 friends from med school and maybe 4 friends from residency and I’ve got a bunch of friends I’ve developed in the last few years.
Dang, typing that all out made me feel incredibly blessed.
It’s funny, if you ask me most days, I’ll tell you dudes are lame and women are more interesting to talk to, but tbh most of my closest and longest running friendships are with dudes. Dudes just need an activity. They don’t need to talk to each other. The vast majority of my male friendships at least originally centered on some activities like basketball, playing Warhammer 40k, playing video games, being in med school/residency.
As far as being emotionally vulnerable with another man, I think maybe like 3-4 guys in total. I am pretty emotionally closed off. I’m more of a “bust your balls” type of friend.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What work of fiction (book/comic/movie/tv show/etc.) changed the way you think about the world? Why?English
4·1 month agoAnything by Le Guin. She’s a revolutionary and visionary. Imo greatest sci-fi author ever.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do we live to work rather than work to live?English
14·1 month agoWe need to fix this definition because it is wrong. Labor is anyone who gets paid to work. As opposed to Capital who makes money off of owning stuff.
IT guys, engineers, doctors are labor unless they literally own the company.
One of my staunchest opinions is that most people including myself are idiots, so I probably should think carefully about all my opinions and I should be open to reevaluating them periodically.

7·1 month agoTbh I buy that. If you’re capable of finding stuff you like to engage with, you’re more likely to buy other products related to the things you engage with.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unforgivable sin done in media that you're still bitter about?English
2·1 month agoI think the subtle difference of opinion is that I don’t think having having a franchise and money is a good enough excuse to make a movie. That’s how corporations make decisions. Tbh that “expand the franchise” mentality is what’s wrong with modern media. I think franchises should die. We don’t need more Star Wars movies. We need new ideas.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unforgivable sin done in media that you're still bitter about?English
7·1 month agoYeah tbh there’s actually been a bit of a revival in the movie space ever since the Marvel universe had its final moment. Everything Everywhere All At Once is actually legitimately one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. One Battle After Another, Eddington, even smaller movies like Mickey 17. So clearly creativity isn’t dead.
I never watched Andor, not because I don’t think it’s probably good, but because it probably didn’t need the Star Wars license to be good. I’ve heard there anti capitalist themes in there and I just have a hard time seeing anti capitalist themes in mass market media as being genuine. It’s like buying a Che Guevara shirt from Urban Outfitters.

I think why you are choosing to do it matters. I think open relationships can be successful, but like are you doing it to keep a relationship on the rocks going? Or are you both legitimately capable of polyamory and able to be available to each other and your other partners in a way that doesn’t feel demeaning to anyone involved?
