For those curious, the approximate geolocation is 31.525350065955017, 34.433101055859076 . I don’t know how to see previous years’ satellite photos from Google Maps, but the most recent photos which seem to be from this year of 2026 show what seems to be several small tents. In a few places, you can still see blackened outlines indicating where bombs were dropped, in others there is rubble that wasn’t fully cleared yet, such as at 31.526064387304725, 34.44335546433405

Even if you go north on the map from that last coordinate, while it seems that most stuff is intact, you’ll often find one or two buildings that collapsed and the others around it are still standing, part of the “surgical strikes” by the murderous Netanyahu

You can use google earth to look at the historical aerial imagery in high resolution.

PS: I know no foss/degoogled alternative for high resolution images like that, so if anyone knows, please share

I think there are places you can get raw satellite images of the places that aren’t Google (Google sources satellite data externally) though for high resolution versions it’s not free, and might not even be cheap. It’s also not pre-stitched into a map, it’s just the images.

Yes, we can get easily images from landsat or sentinel satellites, but the resolution isn’t enough for seeing individual buildings like that, unfortunately. there are also the cbers ans an indian satellite which I don’t remember the name, offering free high resolution images (still not on par with the ones in google maps), but will lack global coverage

Were the photos taken at the same time of day and year? Not to diss the message, which is obviously that Israel is destroying Gaza, but I want to make sure we’re not misrepresenting anything for exaggeration

Not necessarily, if you frequently reference satellite imagery like in the open street map community, you’ll notice that colors and saturation cary wildly between satellites, because they use different techniques to get clearer pictures through various atmospheric effects, and some techniques give greyscale output which may just be combined with color data without much regard for aesthetics. For many applications, color is unnecessary, so many sources just don’t bother touching up the colors. It’s totally believable that both images are as-is from their respective sources.

Usually only the regional imagery sets are from planes, I believe all the global ones are from satellites. But it’s a moot point, the color doesn’t really change the fact that the buildings are completely flattened. No need to prove your credentials 😉

I’m not saying I don’t see a difference in colours, but I’m honestly not looking at the water.

But I agree I would prefer more accurate pics, given that the reality of the situation is as bad as it already is
