Towin Mak, a representative from the educator center that owned the robot, explained to TDM that the incident happened as the robot was leaving the area. The woman stopped in the middle of the walkway to check her phone, and because the robot couldn’t get around, it simply waited behind her, he claimed. That’s when she noticed the robot with its lights on, startling her, given the late hour.

If I discovered a robot standing silently behind me on the street, I would also have a lil’ freakout

Sounds like it’s a glorified Marty from the grocery store. Just grumble and go around it. Also, pay attention.

After you notice it. She did eventually notice it. But I’m speaking generally about these things malfunctioning or even doing what they’re supposed to do and wait for you, the obstruction. Maybe this situation isn’t exactly like the grocery store robot.

If it resists, will they throw it to the ground and keep smashing it with a baton until they can get the arms into handcuffs?

If the environment is shit, you attract the shitheads the other shit environment raised (and also makes your environment shit). That’s a negative cycle.

only if it hits two components wired to an important circuit. otherwise it would just short circuit the taser, interfere with a dispensable component or do nothing, if it hits insulating parts.

I would definitely be talking about the safety of these humanoid robots operating in public spaces. Like, I’m not worried it’s gonna turn evil and be like “KILL. ALL. HUMANS!” but like, the ones I’ve seen are pretty fucking janky and could potentially bug out and start flailing around and hurt someone unintentionally.

Fight and flight are both valid and common fear responses.
