No I dont watch that stuff. Alex Jonas is constantly screaming, not really interested in that content.
I havent followed at all what the guy says. But his movies were cool in the 80s and 90s.
The guy is just an actor to me. I dont care about what he thinks. :) Actors make movies and thats it. They are not more worth listening to than any random person on the street, unless they are Matthew McConaughey… He is an interesting guy for what he says, not his acting skills.
That’s the thing, if that’s all they did a little opinion difference wouldn’t matter. I also wouldn’t care. That’s not what they do though, they use their money and fame harm others. He went on Glenn Beck to support his 9/12 movement, was outspoken about being anti-lgbt, and donated money to those causes. Similar to JK Rowling, who some say to just ignore, then she also started donating her wealth to bigoted causes as well.
Assuming rich and famous people’s opinions can’t cause actual harm is just ignorance.
I didnt say they cant cause harm, I said i like his movies and the guy seems alright to me, since I dont put pro-lgbt as my primary reason for liking a person in this world.
I think if you want to live in a democracy, you have to be OK with people having opinions you dont agree with.
Some of them will be bigots but perhaps have other qualities that are making up for it. Some will not like lbqt and thats something a lot of people dont like outside of Lemmy. So I dont know, I just dont look for these heroes that are perfect in my eyes.
Some of the pro-lgbt people here are most likely not very good people as well in other areas. Its just how people are…
I think the best we can do is accept that everyone has their own path in life, and their own purpose. We may not agree with that but they are here for a reason, just like you are. As long as you can remain non-hateful against people you dont like, I think thats a very good accomplishment, since everyone is trying to make us fight eachother over opinions.
