    Serious.

    ‘Rainbow.’

The original flag, and it covers everyone.

Best of all, it will annoy the people who think that Noah’s ark is authentic history.

MOGAI: marginalized orientations, gender alignments and intersex

it’s an alternative label to lgbtq+, that afaik aims to be more abstract and include all queer people from the get go. unlike lgbtq, which only lists specific identities and therefor has to be extended all the time to include everyone, to the point where you for example can get LGBTTQQFAGPBDSM.

mogai is also a (mainly online?) queer movement, from which the term originates and i think it lost a lot of popularity, if it ever had that much, which is probably why u didnt hear of it.

there are arguments for and against the use of mogai over lgbtq+. i dont really care and just say queer :3

It seems to me the kaleidoscoping of the unity that rainbow flag aimed for doesn’t make the community stronger. I feel the drive to have some constantly evolving all inclusive name and define each and every subset of queer hurts the brand. Instead of a united community there’s tiny little fifedoms that are cliquey and far from universally welcoming. By so rigorously defining the individual the community gets lost and the message gets drowned in a see of voices yelling their specific flavour of gay.

It brings this joke to mind:

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, “Don’t do it!” He said, “Nobody loves me.” I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?” He said, “Yes.” I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?” He said, “A Christian.” I said, “Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?” He said, “Protestant.” I said, “Me, too! What franchise?” He said, “Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?” He said, “Northern Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region.” I said, “Me, too!” Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.” I said, “Die, heretic!” And I pushed him over.

This is just my observation as an old out of touch cis guy with a queer daughter.

Completely agree, the community feels more fragmented than ever. I likely correspond to at least three different pride flags from my orientation at this point and I still mix up the colors. Can we just go back to being “gay” as a broad term? I’ll save the semantics for my pronouns and sexual partners lol

Yeah, if you’re not a candidate for getting in my pants, and happily married thank you, all anyone really needs to know is nonbinary. The charts and graphs with colors and times of day and moods and scratch and sniff areas (it’s a very well designed chart, I’ve put a lot of thought into it) those I have saved over the years for my lovers, my glue salespersons, and the lady who owns and runs my favorite restaurant (we know each other a little too well).

          Hear, hear!

I’m old enough to remember when terms like mullato and quadroon were common expressions.

People started using ‘Black’ to get away from that mind set.

Believe it or not, there’s a lot of queer people who are pretty bigoted against other groups under the queer label. The classic example being LGBdroptheT. The affirmations of specific groups are a reaction to that in-community bigotry, which sociologists call lateral violence. These all-encompasing terms like gsrm don’t always fulfil the function of explicitly including groups that suffer lateral violence.

There’s even trans people on Lemmy who claim that nounself pronouns are a transphobic trolling tactic.

You’re not, I am too and also very queer, never once heard of this lol

You can’t expect people that live outside of niche internet circle jerks to know every acronym.
