This website forces you to pay for a subscription to reject -any- of it’s tracking. No, you can’t just go in and reject them individually. Any selection other than “accept all” gets you this page.
Here’s the start of the dialog

Aren’t they kind of just being honest about what all websites do anyway? Hell, most places you pay for are still tracking you and selling your data, so frankly this may be an upgrade over other services.
I wouldn’t believe them. If they’re doing this, they’re still selling your data.
this is illegal (in the eu)
Not that this is a legit service, but aren’t the two main options:
- Pay with money
- Pay with ads/tracking
Services cost money. It’s never free. Someone is always paying
I’m ok with advertisements personally. My issue is soley with the tracking. You’re correct that this is how they pay for non paying customers but I’m focused on the morality of that monetization. Staticly inserted advertisments that don’t track you are fine. Like the old newspapers which had a simple advertisement placed there that didn’t watch you back. That’s fine.
I’d be much happier if they paywalled the article, or parts of it.
If the free version isn’t viable without immoral monetization it’s unviable. Don’t do it, or find another way to monitize.
Lots of people would rather be tracked than pay
The ads chosen from tracking generate more revenue, unfortunately
Honestly, I find it somewhat refreshing that a company offers this choice. It seems like a more honest, transparent way of doing business.
It’s terrible from a marketing perspective though (this post is a good example of why)
oh, you want privacy?

These things are regularly ruled to be illegal in Germany and still many big news sites use them.

Excuse me while I go block that whole domain in my network…
And they will continue the tracking, anyway.
