I suspect most people aren’t subbing/following communities on Lemmy. So post the community or topic you want to see pop off. And reader(that’s you) if you are interested in that community click the link and follow it.
👏Let’s 👏 start 👏 coordinating 👏 people.
If anyone is interested in 3D printing, bookbinding, cosplay, crochet, knitting and more… This post has links to hobby-related communities:
I 👏 want 👏 more 👏 girl 👏 content 👏
To be clear - I am talking about stereotypically “female” subjects, not about the gender itself, and I hope it goes without saying that I want people of all genders to be part of it. Some topics over on reddit are full of guys, NBs, and everyone else, but are what a bigoted 90s teacher would call “female” topics. I want more stuff of what that 90s teacher would call “girly” stuff.
I mean, something like a makeup community. Maybe skincare and fashion. Cleaning tips. Pre and post and peri pregnancy content. The parenting community on lemmy is super quiet. There is a sewing community but it is rather quiet too. I haven’t found a mending focused community yet. Boy there even isn’t a sailor moon community, like 😭 come on
I’m horrible in creating any content tho, so uhm, not sure I should be complaining.
skincare
Thank you!
Girl, you gotta post!.. Maybe this fits the bill ? !lemmy_stitch@sh.itjust.works
You can also rally up the gals over at
!womensstuff@piefed.blahaj.zone
Or !witchesvspatriarchy@lemmy.ca to start a periodic diacussion thread over those topics you propose? Or just post a thread and see how it goes?
Lastly… You are welcome to post in !artshare@lemmy.world I feel the userbase needs more women , so do a lil sketch and join us there!
Reddit allowed us to be ultra passive, but here contributing is almost mandatory, otherwise the communities just die…
Thank you so much!! I wish I had more stuff to post but I’ll try 🫠 I think the guilt tripping is working
Guitars. Reddit has numerous active, friendly, supportive guitar forums. Lemmy doesn’t have a single one.
Guitars@lemmy.world is good. I just asked about fretboard oil yesterday and got like 30 comments.
I used to be a big fan of videogame subs, it doesn’t seem like there are many communities here focused on specific games.
Minecraft and rimworld had some great community content.
I wish people shared their projects and hobbies more
We need more activity over there. I hope to make a post or two soon, but it’s sad only seeing a couple new posts before seeing things from months ago. C’mon 3D artists!!! Where ya at?
Also:
- !blender@lemmy.ml
- !blender@lemm.ee (RIP)
- !blender@sopuli.xyz
- !blender_3D_animation@lemmy.ml
- !blenderanimation@programming.dev
- !blender@kbin.social (RIP)
- !blender_channel@video.blender.org
Perhaps some consolidation might be warranted here?
Wow, quite a few pages there, but they all have the same problem 😞 not enough activity. C’mon Internet!
Would you consider making a consolidation post in !fedigrow@lemmy.zip?
We have a pinned guide with step-by-step instructions.
Yes i would, actually. Give me some time to read through that, and have something typed up :)👍
Awesome! Let me know if you have any questions, or if there is any way I might able to help out.
I’ll sub to that. Been meaning to get more in to blender
Welcome in!😁👍
👏Let’s 👏 start 👏 coordinating 👏 people.
Subbed thanks!
You’ll probably see it there, but there are only a few people who will persistently try to grow a community, week after week.
Reading the comments here, it seems like a lot of people would like their niche community to be active, but we have to acknowledge that with our current userbase, more general communities are already struggling to stay active, so niche ones are even harder.
Example: !movies@piefed.social is kept up active by less than 5 active posters, and that’s a generic community about movies.
!cooking@lemmy.world is probably good enough for all types of cooking, you get the idea.
Yeah it’s pretty wild. But if we ask people to join niche stuff. Odds are they’re gonna half as it (at least) and just sub to the bigger ones which… I’m taking as a win.
Jesus christ stop making acounts stay blocked
This account is 2 years old?
https://lemmy.world/c/gothindustrial has been resurrected and we are slowly growing. It’s not just about music. We include arts, interviews, stories, etc. We are an inclusive community.
I wish there was more MotoGP and motorcycle content in general…
The dropout community would be nice to circle jerk with. But I really miss my knock off cheap Chinese fake watch sub. I tried to post to it here but my post got deleted and the sublemmy shut down soon after.
The new Jakob ep of gamechanger was a good time. That being said, I also don’t appreciate how they pushed a player(jess?) to tears(happy tears) in her emotional episode in a way earlier season. Weird lil grey zone I haven’t seen explored elsewhere.
I’m very conflicted. But I keep watching.
You wanna feel conflicted? Watch the Greg O’Brien and Aly Beardsley show about paying off their student loans. That was legit reality TV.
Not one community specifically, but I really wish that communities about sports - specifically American football - were more active. I really miss that from the other place.
I am doing my best to get activity going on the nfl and lacrosse instances.
Keep it up. I don’t much care about off-season news or anything, but I’ll probably join the discussion when it comes to highlights and game threads. These upcoming seasons for each sport will play a big part in how active the community will be going forward I think. Unfortunately a bunch of traffic was dominated by the presidential election last year so other niche topics should gain more traction this year.
I’ll try to start contributing to the NFL community.
The NBA community (!nba@lemmy.world) is small but decently active. We had live game threads for the playoffs but it was like 5 people commenting lol. It was still fun though, and hopefully it grows more.
That’s how we get it started. 5 people active on live game thread leads people to see ‘oh, when it’s live there is a group hanging out here’ next time you’ll have 7 then 12 then 30. Keep it up!
That’s the one sub I’ll still peek in now and then. Especially since my guys won it this year. Lol.
Thunder up!
American exceptionalism strikes once again.
How? Because somebody likes something? That isn’t American exceptionalism.
I highlighted it because obviously you’re extremely stupid:
How does liking gridiron football equate to believing the US is exemplary or better than other nations? Or maybe you think the definition of American exceptionalism is, “Likes something American”. Calling people dumb because you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about isn’t a good look.
Saying you want sports communities then hyper-focusing on American sports is exceptionalism.
There is a small percentage of the Lemmy population that is American, the great majority is European.
No one here cares for American football or the NFL. So why create a community? Because they think we care. Simple as. It’s believing that Americans are at the centre of the universe once again 🙄.
I assume you aren’t engaging in good faith dialog here, given the immediate reach for disparaging remarks, but on the off chance you are, let me ask you this. If you asked somebody what their favorite whisky was, and they replied “Laphroaig”, would that be a sign of Scottish nationalism or exceptionalism? Or if you asked their favorite cheese, and they gave “Gouda”, a sign of Dutch exceptionalism?
Just because one’s answer to “What community would you like to see more active…” is something that is from the US, this is not American Exceptionalism. The question wasn’t, “What community do you think every Lemmy user should be required to participate in?” Nor was is, “What community is the best and most important on Lemmy?”
Clearly, at least one person here cares about it. Clearly that person isn’t you. Everything you have written here is incorrect, and if you had any shame, you’d be embarrassed to have said it in public.
Shameless self-promotion: !anniversaries@sopuli.xyz
It’s like “On This Day”, “This Day in History”, etc. I’m currently the only poster but I don’t mind, I enjoy regularly looking for interesting anniversaries.
Post anniversaries on any topic you feel like; even personal anniversaries are allowed!
If Lenny were less complicated to understand I would!
I think we need to get away from the short format brain rot media that is so popular today, like TikTok and Twitter/X. And light novels are familiar and approachable. Often, people have already seen the anime or seen the manga.
For that matter, even !manga@ani.social could use more activity, and manga is even more approachable than light novels.
I recently started reading a lot of the LNs that are on “catch up” at a website called j-novel club, and it’s gotten me to enjoy reading novels more.
Also, the Ascendance of a Bookworm light novel is one of my favorite things I’ve ever read. It’s a pretty long one at 33 volumes, though.
I went there hoping to discuss korean web novels and they don’t allow it.
No idea why
No idea why
Because they are by definition different things. Close in style, sure, but so are YA novels.
Coming as a reddit refugee I just replicated their definition when creating the community. And I still feel the same way since it’s not a general “novel” community. If there’s a popular demand I’ll loose the restrictions.
Thanks for the response.
Considering that Lemmy is still growing I’d hope there would be a place to discuss all light novels in one place.
About a year ago maybe I made a post and it was taken down due to not being a japanese web novel.
Regardless of style “web novel” and “light novel” aren’t specific to a source country like manga and manwha are. So as a community restricting !lightnovels@ani.social to just japanese ones didn’t make sense. You could’ve done jnovels instead.
You’re doing it based off of writing style. You can make that call as a moderator but I just let it go and don’t discuss my reading with anyone still after leaving reddit.
One day maybe enough people break the rule in a month to open it up.
Regardless of style “web novel” and “light novel” aren’t specific to a source country like manga and manwha are.
Both Wikipedia and Wiktionary define them as Japanese. The same goes for the original Reddit community or the database the bot (Myne) gets her info from. I did not take down your comment (it’s still up) but pointed out that it’s the wrong community for that reason. I didn’t do it on a whim.
I’m not categorically against Korean (or Chinese) novels, but they’re by every definition I know simply not “light novels”. I believe that a general book community would be a better place to discuss other translated works. For reference, the place on Reddit to post Korean Webnovels would be r/noveltranslations instead of r/lightnovels.
Thank you for the clarification. I’ve always just searched TITLE light novel and it just comes right up when looking for the source of a graphic novel.
If I had the bandwidth I would start up novel translations myself, but alas my life is too busy to moderate and maintain it.
Thank you for your own efforts as a moderator and taking the time to clarify.Edit:
I’m not good at using Lemmy search, but I figured out how to find my post here: Link
I found a discord server that was dedicated to the series I was talking about, but left it since I don’t like my discord cluttered.
I read like 20 different stories across Korean and Japanese authors. The bulk keeps me distracted enough to not have spare time to chat. Although I miss having people to converse with.
I think we need to get away from the short format brain rot media that is so popular today, like TikTok and Twitter/X.
As Myne in the sidebar states: “Y’all better start reading more books!” :)
And she is noticeably not snobby about books. Myne would love to read light novels.
One problem that got me away from novels for a while was that I’d get ambitious and try to read something that was recommended but really wasn’t for me.

I would recommend to go with series that you liked the anime of and want to know how the story continues. It’s not a 100% surefire way to find something you like, but at least you remove other people’s taste from the equation.
Haven’t seen writingprompts in a while, really liked that one.
