One of the most satisfying things to happen to me at work was using the line “Your family needs a raise” after some of that “we’re a family” crap got way too old. Lol and behold, we all got bigger than normal year-end raises, but most importantly, I haven’t heard any of that crap since.
They never tell you that families come in all shapes, forms and varieties … the kind of family your manager is talking about is most likely a dysfunctional, chaotic, psychopathic, pathological, manipulative group of people who will abuse you at every chance.
Thing is, some companies truly do feel like a second family but those will never say that themselves
I’ve had a few jobs where I felt like part of a group. Not necessarily familial, but like I belonged. Pretty sure the feeling was never reciprocated in any way but, if I was lucky, vocally.
This is a wierd one. Never heard a manager say this. But now I am a manager I do say we probably spend more time together than with our families.
Also do what’s right for you even if that is to tell me im a dickhead
You should probably let your employees spend more time with their families
I have them for their contracted 8 hours. However what I meant was throw in commute and sleep eating into the other 16 means in a lot of cases that 8 hours is where most human interaction happens
My team at work formed about 2 years ago and it seems like I’m on track to be the first one to leave it :( Does feel kinda bad, but the pay didn’t go up with relation to my skill set and responsibility, plus I’m moving half across the country and would prefer to have the option to go to an office sometimes instead of doing 100% remote. My manager is seeing it coming and completely understands, none of that “we are family” guilt tripping bs.
