Another reason to switch: lower blood pressure.

Not in the same sense as North America. We have debit cards tied to bank accounts with a similar functionality as a credit card, but they often don’t work at a negative balance. No one I know has a debit card that functions the same as a North American credit card. (I’m a Canadian living in Australia.)

I have a MasterCard debit card, but it doesn’t work as an age verification for Steam.

I’d gotten so used to crashes that started with a lockup under windows, leading to my poor char’s death, or save corruption…

The freeze and then resume feels like winning the lottery. :D

I’m closing on my six months anniversary of not booting into windows. I wish I had converted earlier as well.

Not having to deal with the whack a mole of problems that was windows is so very lovely.

A few ongoing bothersome problems that honestly amuse me, and I’m far less stressed when something does go wrong that I can’t fix.

Haven’t had a game (so far) that I couldn’t get running, and really only miss one program that I could probably run under Linux if I really wanted to get dirty.

One ongoing problem for some of my games and it’s so random that after spending an hour trying to fix it I decided I didn’t care enough, because I wasn’t having the crashes I used to under windows. (The game freezes, and will stay stuck until having tabbed out to Steam (and only Stream), tabbing to anything else the game stays hung. Then some process comes along that I don’t see, frees everything and I’m back to playing happily.)

Yup. Steady decline in accuracy when swiping, words/names I use everyday (and have added to a custom dictionary) aren’t chosen from the swipe, and even on actual touchtype it corrects to words I never/rarely use.

Oh absolutely. It’s running Ubuntu for a couple years now and it’s so much better.

I was always particularly fond of windows turning my laptop on, running updates, and then going into hibernation, which then caused a blue screen trying to come out of it.

The laptop had sleep and hibernation disabled, all of the wake-on-events and automatic updates were disabled as well. (It was an older cranky thing and deserved rest - or to be taken out back and shot.)

Yet, somehow it always turned on for update day, even after I blocked it from the internet via the router.

I thought the same. I was confused when articles and posts about it started popping up. It’s been around for a Very Long Time.

Probably staggered, or something dumb like by subreddit.

Got it once day before yesterday, then next visit no prompt. Same browser, computer, different subreddit. Same subreddit yesterday and no prompt.

My daughter’s computer programming classes (Year/Grade 11) use Bazzite. Asked her teachers about the choice, and their selling point was old/low end laptops would run it - making it easier for parents cost wise. A nice change from previous years needing Windows or Chromebook.

Windows 11 was stress. I was spending far too much time keeping it the way I want it - stable, no cloud, no AI. A four hour call with MS tech support (that went in the most idiotic circles) kinda sealed the fate of my new desktop build (old one had a failing MB, no choice but to finally upgrade hardware) and switched both it and another desktop the next day.

Much less stressed now, even when things go weird and wonky.

I’d wager it’s due to the user’s catalogue of knowledge being effectively reset, even the deepest of users of windows has years of working around the (many) issues. Swap to a new OS, the knowledge doesn’t always transfer.

It’s not hard, it’s just different.

Used to buy succulent seeds online, and sadly there were a fair number of scammers selling seeds for what appeared to be gorgeous, but non-existent photoshopped succulents.

Scammers gotta scam, and AI makes it easy.

Maybe you and I can go splits. You can have my share of the stone if I can have the pain relief part.

For real. Everyone already has their friend group, their clique, whatever. They often say they are open and welcoming, and sometimes are for a while. They don’t try to get to know the newcomer, regale then with stories of their already set in stone group, and make promises they have no intention of keeping. Newcomer leaves, and they don’t even notice or care to reach out, and if they do, it’s purely performative and there’s no follow through because they already have their group.

Mint. I’ve gotten the popping/crackling to a minimum, but it’s still happening occasionally. (Oddly it happens most often with games that have sound disabled both by OS and via in game)

Not surprised in the least. It’s all about maintaining incoming cash flow.

They cancelled my Win11 (from purchased Win10 eligible upgrade) key earlier this year when I replaced a failed motherboard.

Happy to be free of their ecosystem. Should have jumped free long ago.
