Being British, and having met some ex soldiers, this is absolutely a believable story.

Edit a day later : fuck you for posting this OP, I’ve had this shit stuck in my head all day.

Love the “not entirely in jest” part of

It is often referred to by crewmembers (not entirely in jest) as “the most important piece of equipment in a British armoured vehicle”.

Who was in the Leopard 2? I think the Brits use Challengers and the US Abrams. The Leopards are German and exported to a few countries?!

And Vengaboys is a Dutch band, so the whole thing is a bit of a mishmash.

I think Leopard 2 must have been the callsign. Also, unless I’m mistaken we didnt send any heavy armour to Afghanistan?

The US had tanks in Afghanistan, I’m not sure about the Brits. They weren’t used nearly as extensively as MATVs/MRAPs but they were there.

I still think about him sometimes

I’ve just checked, we (the uk) didn’t deploy heavy armour to Afghanistan. So as funny as the Op is, I feel like it might not be true…

At least Denmark and Canada had Leopard 2s in Afghanistan that were involved in combat. So maybe the “Brits” were just fancy Canadians.
