Old laptop got boosted. Wasn’t updated for 6 years. Microslop tried to install Win11, then said buy new hardware, then tried to install anyway. Didn’t worked. Zorin OS works great. Will also try out Lint Cinnamon, Cachy, Pop and some Arch.

don’t bother distro shopping. if it’s mainstream and has updated packages the only thing you lose by changing distros is time. almost everything u want can be done in your distro.

    I use arch, btw

Zorin is where I landed. Mint was very ugly in my view and the GUI “app store” for it was missing key programs I wanted. Zorin’s has had every program I want to install so far. Mint did “just work,” but Zorin did too.

FYI You can add more repositories to Mint’s manager. I do wish it included more out of the box but I suppose it’s faster as-is.

I just put Linux Mint Cinnamon on an old MacBook and it’s running pretty well. I had an SSD that I could use and an extra RAM (total of 3GB now), and it made all the difference. Planning to get two 4GB RAM cards to max it out, yay for old memory that’s still cheap.

Nice. Zorin has quickly become my favorite distro. Has exactly what’s needed out of the box, caters to practically anyone, smooth and easy to use. They do such a great job.

If you want to game in it, check out Cachy, maybe.

    Otherwise, no point distro hopping.

You can check out his the others look/work btw at Distrosea

Linux Mint is definitely a plus, as it is easy to use and more free than Ubuntu and definitely more free than Zorin. It’s also vintage enough to run on older computers just fine, though I recommend MATE or XFCE spin for the RAM poor
