The top bed is from the S21 torture camp / prison in Cambodia, where people were tortured before killed at the killing fields. That bed was found with a man tortured to death on it when the Kmer Rouge regime fell. It is left there as a reminder of the horrible cruelties that happened there. It’s not supposed to be photographed in the first place. I wouldn’t use it in a meme, out of respect.

It reminds me of listening to fantastical stories as a child that I can barely fathom the results of, let alone the journey. I know I’m hearing very important and profound things, but for the life of me the depth passes me by. The Khmer Rouge renamed the complex “Security Prison 21” (S-21) and construction began to adapt the prison for the inmates: the buildings were enclosed in electrified barbed wire, the classrooms converted into tiny prison and torture chambers, and all windows were covered with iron bars and barbed wire to prevent escapes and suicides.
