    A couple things:

    1. Drones are male bees whose only purpose is fucking the queen and then dying. They’re not really in need of a union or maternal leave.
    2. Even if this offer were for workers, it’s pretty empty too. Paid vacation, union rights and maternal leave are mandatory by law already over here. Also worker bees are female and cannot take maternal leave due to infertility (and presumable lack of adoption rights in the hive)
    3. What if we overthrew the monarchy instead of joining it? Jkjk… unless?? 😳

What if we overthrew the monarchy

To be fair, we named the “queen” bee. We have no idea what the bees would call her.

I’m not an expert on bee communication, but she doesn’t seem to be going around and giving orders (other than swarming and stuff). The bees seem to more or less make their own decisions and operate by consensus.

Tbf honey bees aren’t really monarchic. Iirc they have a very advanced democracy where hive decisions are made by unanimous votes (you vote by dancing the same way as those who share your opinion of course because you’re bees lol)

Plus the queen basically is just stuck in the hive forever after mating once. The workers are the ones who have exciting jobs with novelty.

the only thing i think you can really compare bee hives to are full-on organisms, no individual bee has a particularly nice life. They’re all just slaves to the hive itself, like our cells are slaves to us.

It’s uh, kinda bleak, but hey!

I’m not sure i’d describe bees that way. Bees aren’t working all the time, they have rest and downtime. They also exhibit curiosity and playfulness! I think it’s a little human-centric to assume bees are miserable just because their lives don’t look the way ours do.

Also if the hive is in a region with harsh winters you’re gonna be thrown out in late autumn to die provided you remained a virgin.
