• My family of origin is within 50 feet of me like most of the time when they’re at home… like every moment when they’re not busy with stuff.

    Spend time? Idk.

I don’t speak Cantonese good enough to express my feelings… too depressed to learn… mom doesn’t really understand English that much and she sounds awkward af with a weird accent so nah…

Mom want to “chat with me” but like…

No clue how to even talk to them in a way they underatand…

They scroll WeChat during their free time and watch tv

I just watch my own stuff on a laptop…

    So yeah…

    🤷‍♂️

My mom would hug me, then be like: “so when can you start acting normal?”

How did you grow up without learning your family’s native language? Did you all never communicate…?

Their phone addiction plus lack of emotional communication sounds like classic mainland last generation to me. I’m raining my child speaking more than just English and working hard to give them a leg up. I can understand how difficult it may be!

      Sorry you feel sad.

I see you, I see your pain. I am sorry your days are hard. Keep on keeping on, friend. Things will get better, or they wont. But keeping your focus on what your doing and what you want is key. Cheers.

Every day. We do basically everything together, including going to the bathroom. Except when I’m working, there I am without family.

I live with my husband and twin so I’m seeing them every day. My mother I see occasionally but probably not enough. She travels a fair deal so I’m never quite sure when she’s nearby. Sometimes it’s for holidays or dinner so probably eating is what we do.

Which part of my family? Parents and in laws when we can. Maybe 1-10 times a year. Cousins only at big events. Partner and I try to watch a show together or have sex once a day or so. After that I do my own thing before bed.

I see my mom maybe once or twice a week. I really love her but I live kinda far from her. I wish I could visit her more often but my work doesn’t allow me to.

I see my sister almost everyday. She and her BF used to live at my house for like a year and now they live in the house next door. Sometimes my GF, sis and her BF we dine, drink and see movies together and is really fun

Not as much time as I’d like. We talk, eat food, puzzles, board games, hunt, fish, watch TV/Movies. If I’m around the nephews and nieces we might play video games.

Many hours a day. I have kids that still need my attention, we all eat dinner together, watch shows or play games together, I drive them to their sports, etc.

Wife - basically all day every day since I work from home.

Wife’s family: we meet a few times a year for holidays and mostly eat, drink, and visit others in the area.

Else: basically see them once every five years or so since they live on the other side of the earth. We hang out, eat, talk, etc.

I usually find some excuse to stop by my parents’ once or twice a month. Often dropping the dog off for them to watch her.

We’ll hang around the house, chit chat, maybe have dinner.

We’ll go out to get dinner or something for birthdays, do holiday dinners and such. Occasionally go help each other move furniture or what have you.

A few times a year we get together with my sister and/or her husband to do something, and usually invite each other to our parties and such.

I don’t really see or talk to my extended family much beyond getting invited to weddings and such and seeing them at family holiday gatherings. I’m fine with that.

My wife goes to visit her mom a couple times a month, often she’s helping her with chores, sometimes her mom comes to our house to hang out.

Her dad lives a little further away, we probably see him about twice a year, usually spending a night on two at his place. We usually go out to get dinner, sometimes go into the city to see a show or do something else, hang around his place and watch movies.

I almost never see her brother or his wife, we have some wonky schedules that often don’t align. When I make it to her family holiday things, it’s usually them, her mom, and her grandmother. We mostly watch stuff on tv, sometimes play uno, and eat dinner.

Very rarely. They live hundreds of kilometres away. In laws a 9 hour drive (without stopping) and parents a 7 hour drive (without stopping).
